54 of the nation's most talented young players will come together at the Basketball Australia National Centre of Excellence in Canberra in January for the 2015 BA Australian Development Camp.

A vital component in the identification and development of future Australian Basketball stars, the Australian Development Camp allows Basketball Australia to see some of the country’s top young prospects exposed to elite-level development programs for the first time.

The camp will see both our wheelchair and able-bodied athletes continue to develop the necessary skills for international competition, with the ultimate goal of national team selection.

Through the years, some of Australia’s biggest stars have been uncovered at the ADC, including Jayco Opals stars Lauren Jackson, Penny Taylor, Jenni Screen and, more recently, rising star Stephanie Talbot.

Airbnb Boomers stars Patty Mills, Andrew Bogut, Brad Newley and Dante Exum also got their break through the ADC program.

The summer 2015 edition of the ADC will take place over five days from 19-23 January and will be run by Boomers Head Coach Andrej Lemanis, Opals Head Coach Brendan Joyce and Rollers Head Coach Ben Ettridge.

Lemanis, Joyce and Ettridge will be supported by National Shooting Coach and Talent Identification Manager Brad Davidson, BA Centre of Excellence Coaches and a selection of coaches from across Australia.

I saw the list of males attending, it seems a very random list, how are they selected I wonder?

Missing an awful lot of names from both girls and boys who would normally be on these lists wonder why that is? Girls, no Lauren Sherf, Talhia tupea , Racheal antoniadou , and none of the c of e boys either. Seems a little strange

The selectors don't appear to have picked the 'best' players available to them. A lot of strange male selections. Guess it is just a 'development' camp...

Probably seen enough of some so taking the opportunity to look at others, those girls mentioned not going are all wnbl players so maybe they can't go. The CofE boys they would see every day, but then they do have the CofE girls going

They are probably not there because of WNBL commitments

Not sure as to why you would have girls already selcted for u19s and attending the CoE in a development camp.

Lots of people in QLD scratching their heads at the selections and non selections.

Who are the selection of coaches from across Australia?

Having watched a number of the athletes named in the ADC at both East Coast Challenge and the Country Cup over the past couple of weeks, there are quite a few players who should count themselves lucky to be there and some who are probably right to scratch their head in dismay at their non-selection. I don't know what the criteria was but perhaps a re-think is needed before more talented athletes start slipping through Basketball Australia's cracks...

So your kid missed out?

My view is there were a lot of kids at ECC who shouldn't be there. Seems kids get selected way back, and they just stay in "the system" because they were ok in u14.

Lots of kids there that don't deserve it, lots of kids that should be there that aren't because of poor selection and talent id.

Ahhh that cystal ball of " future potential".

re:ACJBC NSW has a couple of standouts but other state limited court time so the athletes did not standout. Well to me anyway.

Too big a gap between 16 Nats and AusCamp. Players picked should not be going and others have passed them by since then. Need to work better with states and invite players closer to auscamp.

Problematic...but you are right , although not sure of a solution as this is the only time elite juniors for all states are all together in the one location.

I also agree as I have been watching a selected athlete since August and I am left scratching my head as to why he was selected.

No I am not a parent but a local coach.

There are players (who I won't name) who literally dominated their age groups at ECC and Country Cup yet weren't selected. On the other hand, there were players selected for the ADC who were astoundingly quiet at their respective comp. Something's going wrong when that's the case. And I'm not a parent.

Maybe the High Performance Coaches of each State should select players for consideration from other States but not their own. After day 2 you have a fair idea of the standouts.

Got to be a better way. Not sure this review is even on track but great efforts in putting together nonetheless....

The list is incomplete of kids going, I know of at least one girl who is not listed.

Not sure how different the real list is from the online one. I'm sure LC will know...oh hang on, there's no online stats to create a story from.

Settle guys, LC and his crew do what they can with what they get! They can't run stories on speculation and rumour, that is left for us all to give an opinion or two that really don't matter in the bigger scheme of things...

Eventually the coaches at the AIS will get to see all the best kids they need to or want to, can't see more than those they can accommodate at any one time though...

Sorry "Bear" but stories made up based on stats or other online content and massaged into a story does not equal reporting or journalism.

This "content" should be advertised for what it is; with for example a disclaimer like 'I wasn't at Nationals, but this is what I've made up based on the stats" or I didn't see that game", or "I've never seen her play, but a bloke who has no idea reckons she's the next big thing"

Thing is, the person that wrote the PnR piece has attended nationals and has a very good knowledge of many of the players.

Why don't you check who wrote the article?

I do not have the knowledge of the players and nor have I attended nationals for quite a few years and hence my opinion is not in the article.

And as you point out, it is the opinion of one of our great writers who has very good knowledge of ,any of the players. And yes, it is his opinion.

So in your opinion your writer has very good knowledge of the players in his opinion?
