NBL Board needs to go

Firstly in my opinion Marvin should of stepped down last year from the NBL chairmans role after tweeting photos of the Joey incident. The conduct from the chairman of the league is unacceptable and if it happened in anything sport he would not be there now.

It is very clear we need some fresh talent and a fresh set of eyes on the board that are prepared to make bold decisions to progress the game in this country.

Imagine Eddie being the chairman of the AFL as well as running Collingwood? We would be saturated with Collingwood which is great for their club but not so good for the rest of the competition and the average punter.

As the most successful club Perth need to be represented so we can all learn from there best practices but reading between the lines the influence they have is at the detriment of the league.

Why not just broaden the board, Jake. Surely that is a less aggressive way to improve the situation?

If the board goes the league goes, they are the reps of the clubs who make up the comp.

However, as Isaac says, we need to add at least as many independent boards members as there are club reps, including an independent chair, so the league can be run in its best interests while still having a strong club focus.

The board desperately needs some outside ideas and some smart independent business acumen.

Self elected board of the private owners. How can that change unless they do it themselves.

Yep, governance!

Need a blend of basketball and independent business & marketing EXPERTISE, with an expert independent chairman ... I stress, expert & independent chairman who has the ability to chair and control a board [not the sport or the league!], which is no easy task.

Starting point would be - once you sit around the board table you are there to further the league as a whole, not as a representative of a club, team or even a sector of the sport. You can - and should - draw on that knowledge but you are not there to represent any sectional interest.

Believe it or not, only when that sort of structure is in place and operating will the league and its clubs be truly furthering all their interests because a board that is able to make good longer-term, strategic governance [not management!] decisions is essential to the survival and development of the league, which is the starting point for furthering the 'interests' of all parties/stakeholders, including the financiers supporting clubs like Perth and the Hawks.
