Austin Rivers to Clippers

Looks like the Jeff Green trade will be a 4 team deal and involve the Pelicans and Clippers.
Weird how he will now be playing for his dad. Always seemed like a spoilt brat going from hyped high schooler to being benched by coach K. Had his moments (UNC buzzer beater) but didn't seem to buy into the Duke team concepts and left after 1 year.
Doc seems sensible, but is this a matter of looking after his baby boy. Clippers need a 3 man not another shooting guard. Amidst stories of a split locker room surely this will divide it even more especially if junior gets minutes which it looks like he doesn't deserve. Then what if he gets waived, won't be a happy thanksgiving at the Rivers house!

Technically still a three-team trade at this point:

"The Celtics will receive TayShaun Prince, Austin Rivers and a first round pick from the Grizzlies. Rivers will likely be traded to the Clippers in a techinically separate deal for a second round pick."

Rivers just isn't an NBA player at this point. As a massive Duke fan, I found his one year there extremely frustrating. He purportedly has an outstanding work ethic, but that seems to go along with an over-inflated sense of his own ability. Being talented and hard working isn't always enough, especially if you're not extremely talented, and the areas you work hard on aren't the ones you should.

Not a Clippers fan, though, so if they want to make even more of a mess of their season by adding him, I won't complain.

Have heard that Austin is a very hard working player.

But is he a SMART, hard working player?

He comes across as the kind of guy who would endlessly be in the gym getting shots up, but not working on his other weaknesses (defence, dribbling, play-making etc).

Rivers isn't an NBA player as he doesn't have a niche in the league. Those players who can't find a niche don't last.
