Ben Allen bashing....the favourite pastime of people who have no bball clue or talent, but feel they are entitled to criticise. Guess it makes them feel better after they went nowhere in their bball career.

To think it was Ben when the title clearly says Bec is one thing.

To think it then tell the world you were thinking it suggests you are an A grade clown.

Congrats to Bec, and well done to the Libs. Pretty smart signing I reckon.
I wish her the best. It's nice to have some interest in the eastern conference again.

If only Ben played with the same passion as the people defending him on here. He didn't lack talent.

Certainly not backing Ben, just disappointed the thread promoting a great achievement by Bec gets hijacked by some clown with stuff all else to do with their time.

I'm really glad for Bec that Brendan Joyce was able to make this happen for her....

http://www.basketball.net.au/allen-signs-new-york-liberty/

Brendan Joyce -

"We fast tracked Bec with the Opals in 2014 by taking her on all tours and playing games against WNBA teams in their pre-season, and on our international tours to Japan and Europe."

“Then Bec made the Opals World championship team as a back up to Penny Taylor that won the Bronze medal in Turkey. Bec has the length and body type and quickness and athletic ability that can see her play and have a great impact in the WNBA.”

Joyce also added the benefits that will come to the development of Allen's game by playing in the WNBA.

“Bec will play in the right position as a guard and wing and the fast paced and free flowing game can also enhance her skill package in the WNBA that will assist her with the international game.”

Allen took full advantage of Joyce’s decision to include her in the initial Opals training camp through to the World Championships; an experience that she claims helped her make the decision to play abroad, and her unique skills set and high potential immediately caught the attention of the Liberty during the scouting process.

17pts 5 rebounds in 35 mins vrs lynx and 14pts vrs seattle would have done her CV good as well

Is Joyce's line of her playing in the right position suggesting she isn't currently doing that?

She wouldnt be a good 2 in the wnba. She will definately be playing the 3 spot no doubt.

I agree. People keep listing her as a 2. I haven't seen any evidence that she can play that position. A backcourt with Bec as the secondary ball handler would be asking for trouble at this point IMO. I'm guessing that Bill might have her working on that though, because he loves big guards.

She'll probably need to strengthen up to play a significant role at the 3 in the WNBA, but I see it as the ideal spot for her.
Penny played some of her best seasons at the 4 spot so Bec can certainly play the 3.

I wish people would get past the idea that only midgets can play 1 & 2.

It is perpetuated by little people and their supporters. Basketball is a tall person's sport - I hope she kills it as a 2.

I'm guessing she would probably be even more ready to play the 2 if she had not spent her junior years battling coaches saying "you're tall, you play 4-5. I need to let all my mediocre littlies play 1-2 because that is all they can do."

That probably is a large part of the reason. It's all too common to get stuck in the paint for that reason.
That doesn't change the fact that being able to shoot perimeter jumpshots does not automatically qualify her to play in the backcourt at this point in time.
Maybe she's got skills in that department that I haven't seen. Until I see them though, I remain unconvinced that I want her handling the ball.

Seriously basketball is NOT just a tall persons sport, who the hell do you think gets the ball to the 'Tall' person.....it's that mentality that restricts so much of the game

She actually played more time as a 3 for the majority of her last 5 years, which is her natural position but hey, lets not let the truth get in the way.

With some work she could be a 3/2 so lets see hey.

Exactly. As bad as the people who think tall people should just get in the paint are those who think they should slide down a position. World basketball is getting quicker, not taller.

Bec is a SF, with her length and athleticism she has potential to be a stretch 4 later in her career when she gets stronger, but to be a SG she's going to have to do an enormous amount of work on her guard skills.

She's a 3/2. She's a great shooter but she can't handle the ball to the extent that is required in the wnba. She's gonna be on the wing as a perimeter shooting, driving, rebounding, shot blocking player With good defence on small forwards or switches on shooting guards. Wnba 2 guards will be much quicker than in the wnbl.
The Liberty have already listed her as a 6'1 forward....
A very versatile player, will do really well at the Liberty.

Talbot is another 3 that's interesting. Such tenacity on the defensive end but still lacking a shooting game. Defensive specialist maybe.

being mentored by swin for SF ... can't get much better than that.

her game will go through the roof.

Recall Laura Summerton came back 300% stronger after her training /experience at con sun

Brendan Joyce had nothing to do with her getting this position, she did it all on her own. If anything Guy Molloy has developed her beautifully. Joyce played her like 3 minutes and crushed her.

She will play the 3 spot and that's where she is happy.

Good on her for getting the opportunity
