RIP Jerome Kersey

The former Portland Trailblazers legend was just 52. I'll especially remember him along with Drexler & Porter playing against Jordan's Bulls in the NBA Finals. Kersey also had the honour of being one of Andrew Gaze's teammates on the '99 Spurs championship team.

Sad news out of the Portland area, long-time Trail Blazer and fan favourite Jerome Kersey has died. He was just 52.

The news was first reported by Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports but since then it has been confirmed by a Trail Blazers representative. At this time we do not know the cause.

The day before he died Kersey spoke at a school in Portland about Black History Month with fellow former Trailblazers Terry Porter & Brian Grant.

Very sudden and sad news.

He had surgery on his knee which may have something to do with the cause. Surgery is known the cause blood clots. That's very sad.

Shocked and sadden to learn of this news even as a Knicks fan.

I remember watching Kersey and his crew in the 90's battling MJ's Bulls especially.

Was a key contributor on one of the best teams to never win a championship. Had a long career through sheer hard work and hustle.

Very sad news, Jerome Kersey was a legend of the game and from the sounds, a straight up all round good guy.

I had the pleasure to see the 1993 Blazers team play and apart from being one of the best teams of all time, his energy and work ethic were unbelievable.

Condolences to his family and the entire Portland and basketball community.

Players like this simply don't seem to exist any more.
