Bendigo Spirit announce Melbourne Boomers signing

Announced on the spirit Facebook page

The Bendigo Spirit wishes Madeleine Garrick all the very best for her career, as she signs on with Melbourne Boomers for the next two years. Maddie has been a great contributor to the club over the years and we will certainly miss her. Maddy first played with the Bendigo Spirit in 2009-10 before moving to the AIS in Canberra for two seasons, then returned to the Spirit for the 2012-13 season.
She has given us the last three years and it has been a pleasure to have her as part of the club. We understand she will be pursuing her studies in Melbourne and we wish her all the very best for whatever the future holds.

How nice of Bendigo to announce Melbournes signing

Ashke - sarcasm. All they are doing is thanking Madeleine for her services to the club.

What poor form. Who announces another clubs signing? Courtesy would say to thank Maddie for her service after the official announcement.

Classic - they have no good news to announce themselves so they have to resort to announcing good news for other clubs. Just reflective of the poor management down at Bendigo.

I agree about it being poor form. Firstly, give her new club a reasonable opportunity to promote the signing themselves. Secondly, no need whatsoever to name her new club when wishing her all the best.

This looks like the sort of thing that happens when Club A is really annoyed with Club B... might be another story here.

This looks like the sort of thing that happens when Club B is upset that Player M will be unable to raise tens of thousands of dollars for them by manning their hot donut van

Seriously, "poor form"? Boti mentioned the signing on his blog yesterday.

Have we run out of things to complain about?

It's one thing for a journalist to report a rumour, another for a club to announce it. But Bendigo's always been a little classy like that. Anyone else remember the bitter Facebook post a few seasons back talking about a player verbally committing and then signing with another club? You just don't post that kind of stuff! As said before, they could have wished Maddie well without naming the club.

The Spirit could really use some media training right about now!

They should also check name spelling and read their article before posting. They say maddie then maddy. It's not hard to proof read people!

Just seen the Melbourne announcement:-

"MADDIE GARRICK SIGNS WITH THE BOOMERS FOR TWO YEARS
The Melbourne Boomers are excited to announce that Maddie Garrick has signed with the Boomers for the next two WNBL seasons..."
"Originally from Shepparton in Victoria's north and having also spent some junior years in Melbourne playing with the Bulleen Boomers, Garrick is excited about her move to the Melbourne Boomers and the prospect of working with Molloy..."

Even had a nice word fro Bendigo:-

"...Maddie's game has blossomed behind the veterans at Bendigo..."
