SEABL Round 1

A couple of interesting results in Round 1 with Nunawading beating Mt Gambier by 14 on the road and Ballarat travelling to Geelong and coming away with a two point win.

Albury/Wodonga were also really impressive beating Canberra by 40.

Anything else of note coming out of Round 1?

Bandits especially impressive considering they were without Deba... then again, it was against a Gunners team that looks to be lacking any ammunition this year.

Deba returning may impact on team productivity.
Ballarat two good wins v Geelong and Bendigo.
Launceston women 100pt score. Appear to have a solid four but very little depth.
Hobart women good win with one import still to come.
Tas men's teams appear to have one import out of four up to SEABL standard.

Hobart Men have and import starter and a tall aussie starter no where near seabl standard based on one game

Only one game. I wouldn't write off bennerman just yet. His shots just weren't falling for him. One of those nights it looked like from the sidelines.
Along with Hunt those two will b a great import combo after what I saw Friday night.
Harris-Tunks - can see why he's not in the NBL

Shooting 3/23 in your first game or whatever it was... Its hard to get back and have a decent shooting season after that.

I didn't see the game although shooting at that % if shooting open shots is very bad. Shooting that % if he is shooting on people is just as bad. Especially in a 3 point loss....

first SEABL competition game maybe...

but he has played a practice game against NWT, practice game against the euro all stars (whoever they were) and played a handful of SBL games since hitting Australian soil back in February?

not once has he shown a glimpse of any SEABL import level ability

Head Coach should be going based on current performance and last seasons Chargers history.

Bennerman will be fine.Seen enough tapes to know what hes capable of.Just needs a breakout game.As long as hes doing the work off the court is the most important thing. One of Ringwoods imports shot single figures first 3 games and everybody starting thinking he was a dud.Next game shots dropped.40 points.Carried a bit of an injury and had lost confidence.

Corletto is a hack. Hodgson missing 4-6 weeks.

Let's hope for the SEABL league and level of competition Frankston add some power to what seems a pretty poor team.
Polk deserves some help, Hodgson will be a good addition if he can get on the floor. If Corletto does turn up just adds another non defender and 15 shots per game.
Having said that, they cant get any worse. Canberra, Brisbane and Frankston (without corletto or new import) clearly worse teams in SEABL.

Corletto's a hack? I'm gonna guess you were/are a hack, remind me how many championship rings corletto has, is it 2 or 3, have lost count. He's an excellent role player and will provide Blues with 20 points a game minimum, he'll go for 30 or 40 some nights. They have defence oriented guards in Macaulay and Page, they need a scoring guard. He's a great pick up for them IMO

Brisbane one of the worst teams?
With a roster boasting Brendan Teys, Scott Kenny, Luke Martin, Tueta, Martin Iti, Dean Brebner, an import and some more solid role players?

Corletto to go for 40 some nights - seriously!! Agree he isn't a hack but no way he's getting 40. May take enough shots to get 40!!

Any truth in a Frankston player being booted off the team because of his off court "performance" on the road trip...

Yep - Brisbane one of the worst teams, lets have a look mid season. Unstable, coach taking all the money.

My opinion and happy to review after 12-14 games.

maybe the most entertaining aspect of SEABL this year will be Corletto and Bennerman competiting for most shots taken, most missed shots and worst shooting percentage?

Bennerman another 5-15 game for Grenadiers in SBL last night

^^ 2x 3 shots made, a couple of rebounds and a solid block inside the last 4mins most likely did get them over Phoenix which is no easy feat. But he was missing for 3 1/2 periods pretty much.
