Cheap Shot, poor form.....

Delly is playing at the level he is supposed to and a couple of heroic games have probably avoided the Cav's being swept !!

Man, I hate the Cavs, but I do definitely respect how Delly's played this series. A couple of great games (definitely enhanced by Curry's lack of form), but he is still playing well outside his role for that team. Guarding Curry for an entire finals series is a phenomenal task, and he's stood up to it well.

The reality is the Cavs are a team now operating with nothing left in the tank. Delly's earned every cent of his money and more.

20 points in an NBA Finals game the biggest stage in world basketball, was just the 3rd undrafted player in NBA history to do that? The lowest paid player on either of the Cavs or Warriors?

Overhyped? Seriously now?

This is exactly what I'm talking about. You're talking him up from one good game. Complete spud games 1, 4 and 5 and a decent game 2

Bogut DNP is due to Kerr's new tactic of punishing Cavs for using 7 players: "Run them to death"

Bogut is not consistent with running a team into exhaustion. Doesn't mean he isn't a great starting centre on the best team in the league.

The average NBA player has a Player Efficency Rating of 15.
If your PER is 15 you're considered an average.

Dellys is 8.

Yes it does.
Last time I checked you had to actually start to be called a starting centre and you definitely had to actually play!

Delly played some great defence today, forcing Curry in several bad shots, turnovers and tricky situations, as well as denying him his usual catches numerous times. But great offence usually beats great defence and that's what happened today. Anyone who thinks he's a spud or he 'just played some defence' really has little understanding of basketball.

Curry shot 10 of 15 and two turnovers should have been called kicked balls. Wouldn't call that great defense. And YET ANOTHER cheap little bitch move because he's such a spud.

James mcadoo $167,000 this season seems a hell of a lot less than Dellys $816,000
but it's not like Delly fans really care about the truth anyway.

I love how everyone says facts count for shit unless they're for Delly. Yes he was the third undrafted player to score 20 points in a finals game, he's also the first Australian player shorter than 6'7 to shoot 25% from 3 for the finals while recording one cheeky/dirty play a game

Here are Curry's stats in the last 3 games since Dellavedova became a national hero:

31-for-60 FGs (51.6%)
18-for-33 3pt (54.5%)
28.6 ppg

National zero*

Steph misses open shots in the first two games = Delly is the best defender ever, locking up the MVP, no excuses are allowed for why stephs shooting terribly
Steph starts hitting contested shots = Delly is undrafted/ plays with so much effort he can't keep it up forever/ blah blah blah excuses

Delly has returned to his regular season form. That's all. Played out of his skin a few games but now dellsanity is over.

Can't wait for the excuses when he has another regular game in game 6.

"Curry shot 10 of 15 and two turnovers should have been called kicked balls. Wouldn't call that great defense. "

Curry can hit shots against any type of defence. I think you might be showing your ignorance pointing to his shooting numbers. Delly couldn't have done much more today, another tremendous effort against an out-and-out superstar.

But he locked Steph game 1. Why couldn't he do it the last couple of games. You're ignorant if you actually think Delly can stop him on the regular.

"locked him up" in half court offence when the Warriors did not run a pick and roll anyway. 3 of 8 were pick and rolls where Steph gets straight passed him but misses, and one where he gets the ball with three on the clock to shoot.

Made him miss 4 shots. Locked him up. Okay

What Delly has done is make life difficult for him inside a disciplined team defensive system, much like Darren Lucas and Mike Kelly did to Andrew Gaze back in the day.

They could lock him up on certain possessions and even some nights, but Drewey was always going to have games where it didnt matter what Lucas, Kelly and their teammates did.

Just because a great scorer gets points, doesn't mean an individual or team played poor defence. And just because a scorer gets off one night, it doesn't detract from the defensive performance of another night.

Delly's effort moving his feet, fighting over screens, getting a hand up to shots, chasing down from behind, denying catches, deflecting passes and being a flat out pain in the arse has been truly world class. He deserves nothing but credit for his defensive efforts.

The above posters ripping on Delly after game 5 need to keep things in perspective and not be so quick to bad mouth him. Your eagerness to "jump off the bandwagon" makes you no less fickle than those you seek to ridicule by being "on the bandwagon" (which incidentally, included you until Game 5, it seems).

Someone above pointed out that Delly's PER is below league average. Exactly. And, he's guarding the current league MVP and a guy who might be the best long distant shot in NBA history.

Delly has done extraordinarily well in the playoffs and has had some very good games against Curry early in the Finals. He has done better than anyone could have expected, and we should rightly applaud that.

Curry then does what everyone knows he is capable of, and there are posters on here who are only too happy to announce they are getting "off the bandwagon". Curry torches Delly so Delly is "a spud".

Delly plays his guts out every single game, and just happens to be the current starting point guard playing in the NBA Finals. I don't care if Curry goes for 40 in Game 6 if Delly is in his face and contesting those shots.

He is living all of our dreams, and we should get behind that.

Jono mate none of that means shit. He's a professional athlete. Part of being an athlete on such a big stage is that you're going to be criticised. Just because he's Australian and we live in Australia doesn't mean he's instantly immune to people thinking he's playing averagely when he is

I find this hilarious. I dont care how Delly is getting a start or how he is getting a game for that matter. I dont care what his PER is or how it compares to the league average. The guy is gettinh paid close to a million bucks to play in the NBA finals. If the Cavs have no one else on their list is their fault...injuries occur. List management or who they sign is the role of the front office.

I also love all the keyboard warriors and how some on here react to trolls just trying to stir you up.

Its quiet conceivable that Delly isnt sitting on his computer back in Cleveland reading Hoops and worrying about what a handful of twats post.

I agree. Makes you wonder why people can't be honest instead of wrapping him up in cotton wool saying his play is acceptable for an NBA player starting in the NBA finals instead of making up excuse after excuse for why Steph is killing him and why he's shooting 25%

You don't care that pretty much every stat available shows he's an incredibly underwhelming player because he's getting basically the least amount of money the Cavs can legally pay him. Fair enough

This sums it up quite well. It's been overhyped because many people weren't expecting it, that's made it the talk of the Finals.
