Aaron Fuller has 54 points, 19 rebounds in NZ NBL

Taranaki Mountain Airs import Aaron Fuller set a National Basketball League record when he scored 54 points, but it wasn't enough to get his side home against Waitakere Rangers in New Plymouth on Sunday night.

Down by 14 at one stage, the Airs fought back and not only threatened to win their first game of the season, but also tip the game into overtime.

With only 10 seconds remaining, Taranaki had possession but missed a two-pointer to level the scores, with the Rangers holding on to win 110-108.

Fuller, after scoring 39 points in the 108-91 loss to the Manawatu Jets in Palmerston North the night before, was the star of the show.

He shot 25 from 34 from the field, along with four from six from the free throw line, scoring half his team's points. And he dominated the boards, pulling down 19 rebounds - eight better than the next best, Casey Frank for the Rangers.

... Australian point guard Jason Cadee scoring the quietest 40 points in league history, going 13/22 from the field, 6/13 from deep and 8/10 from the free-throw line
Not bad!

Probably tells all about the commitment to defence in the NZNBL.

Went to the game and had the privilege of sitting courtside and watching it unfold.

No 50 point game is quiet, but it didn't feel like he had 50. More like 35. Finished on 25/34 from the field, but at one point I think he was 24/29 ish. Mind-boggling.

Crazy good post moves. A wide array of very polished and refined moves. He has all the moves - great touch. Fadeaway jumpers, hooks with either hand, mid-range jumpers, reverse layups.

The "average defender" argument is somewhat invalid. He had Casey Frank and Tai Wynyard marking him all night. One crafty experienced vet and one UK recruit who is 4 inches taller.

I was sitting with a mate and said "Watch Cadee, he will go off today". They kept going under the screen so he punished them appropriately. That kid can play. Watching him on tv for the Kings just doesn't do justice to how talented he is. He is the real microwave.

Funny thing is, Cadee is the best PG in NZ at the moment. Just my opinion, but if he was a NZer, he would be the starting PG at the TB's Oceania qualifiers! Kid is crazy good.

Casey Frank was one of the main defenders... there's vet then there is ancient.

What is Fuller like on "D". Has he some range where he could play the 4 and pinch hit at the 5 in NBL?

It looks like shoulder problems may have severely impacted the last 2 years on his college career.

fstos, too small I would say.

I watched him and thought 'good 6"9 PF great length", until he was standing next to me.

Checked his bio and he is 6"6 and not awfully tall.

Adds to the amazement.

Frank is oldish, but he is 3 inches taller than him and can still defend very well. Argument invalid.

54 isn't the record.

Tony brown had 70 in his first game for the Palmerston north jets

Lamar Harris went for 64 for the Nelson Giants.

When defending Casey Frank's basketball abilities, there is never a invalid arguement to combat it. Being 3 inches taller isn't the end all. Either way like the big stats these guys are getting, miss those Gaze type scores posted.

If Cadee is the best Pg in Nz then that days it all about the competition.

How many Australian pg's that play in Australia are better than Cadee?

Funny that people on here always want to find any way possible to discredit and downplay a player's achievements. Tall poppy syndrome?

There's some very good PG's going around in the league at the moment FYI. Quality imports.

NZNBL is a better league than SEABL.

Mystro

I would say that the following are clearly a tier in front:

A Gibson
D Martin
R Martin
M Norton
S Markovic

And that J Cadee falls into the mix with:

N Tomlinson
S Bruce

Cadee is at a similar level to Norton. He is slowly but surely getting better, has to find more consistency and get stronger to survive at the defensive end.
