It was definitely a better defensive effort than the group games.

Next is probably Russia who primarily score in the post. Vadeeva... Looks very good.
Much like smith but I think a tad better at this stage.

The crowd might be a factor also.

Nothing more predictable than people watching junior WCs and bagging the standard. It always looks easy from the couch.

Yes antoniadou would have been a huge benefit that's what this team lacks a defensive fast guard.

Vadeeva looks to be a tad shorter than scherf but much bigger and more mobile.

Scherf has probably peeked at 6'5 but vadeeva being only 16 she probably be around 6'6 by the time she stops growing.

Magbegors growth over the next few years will be intersteing to see also.
She is also 6'4. More athletic but very lean.

Too big, too strong, too structured and no
One back home would have made any difference to that score line - Ref's allowed the Russians to go after us on penetration early in the game but punished Smith and Scherf when we did the same. Vadeeva and the PG just a class above right now.

Stay with our kids for the Bronze game, go Aussies

probably not although I think hellessey is a great defensive rebounder.
Maybe her over Dennis as one is defensive minded and the other offensive.
Dennis however did show she can stretch the floor and shoot the 3.

Maley, horvat and magbegor can all make next u19s.
The rest... Some may never see international basketball again?

Trouble is both vadeeva and musina will be there to.... Next time round.

Smith. 3 rebounds, 1 point, fouled out. Ouch!

Wallace and tupaea combined for 25 whilst the other 10 players contributed a total of 32.

vadeeva 27 points, 16 rebounds, 5 blocks. A star in the making.

The commentators hit the nail on the head when they said Australia needed to keep defensive pressure on the PG to disrupt the ability to get it inside. The Russian PG just blew past Tupaea, Pirini and Seaton and when she wasn't running past them she was lobbing in to the bigs.
Problem is no one plays D
Watched the usa v Spain earlier in the week , not sure the outcome will be a bronze for the Aussies this time round but 4th is ok at least they made the playoffs which is better than the boys

It's sort of the opposite of the Russian game.
Spain have really good guards but aren't very big in the post positions.

Do you think Russia have a chance in the final?

Usa pg's aren't that great this time around but they have some nice players in the front court. Wilson, collier, Stevens, anigwe, cox etc.

I think levchenko will be all over Ortiz.

If Gorri doesn't make better use of Sherf then Spain will sail through.
Needs to get froling or smith out of starting 5 they can't let Spain get off to a good start , playing catchup basketball with little weapons to come off the bench is never fun

Very stagnant at times, didn't have many plays to feed it into the post and our defensive pressure was definitely lacking throughout the tournament. A lot of empty passes around the perimeter to....

some are off to college(Wallace,Froling, Smith, Sharp next yr) others are still young enough for another un19s in two years(Magebor, Horvat, Mali) Sherf and Tupaea are contracted already to WNBL the others they will most likely be lost in the system along with all the others waiting in the ranks of WNBL/SEABL teams possibly never heard of again, though I have heard Seaton was/is pursuing a modelling career and will give basketball the flick now .

""What about the future of the bronze medallists, surely they have done very well?""

what other futures would you be expecting, they are all either still in school or just starting college??, and yes agree some other teams will be in the exact same position now that under 19 worlds is finished, with the exception of the European teams who have a huge competition to be able to go into, our girls next next stop is uni games in 20179if they are in uni), their are already plenty ahead of them for the Oceania series for this years opals , Olympics and commonwealth games especially with Joyce's preference for the current young players

....did you think this will give them a leg up into the opals for the next tour LOL

Do you guys think Wallace will be a future pg or sg at opals level?

Would you put her ahead of someone like lavey/Clydesdale/panousis (others that are at uni?) who will be vying for a full time opals spot in the next few years.

Phillips and Mitchell are near the end of their international career and I can't see to many capable replacements. Maybe cole and those previously mentioned.

Who else?
Not sure I can see madgen or ebzery switching over to the one...
