Halls and Woollacott 2015 Award Winners

Woodville's Callan Taylor and Norwood’s Matthew Lycett have won the prestigious Halls and Woollacott medals, acknowledging them as the "Fairest and Most Brilliant" players in the 2015 Premier League season.

The medals, which are determined based on a game-by-game 3-2-1 referee voting system, were presented at a ceremony at the Moet & Chandon Upper, Morphetville Race Course, along with a number of other awards highlighting individual performances of the 2015 season.

Taylor received 42 votes to win the Halls, ahead of Sturt’s Amy Shaw on 34 and Central’s Amy Lewis on 31. Callan polled 10 first preference vote’s 5 second preference votes and 2 third preference votes

Lycett’s win was closer - finishing on 40 votes ahead of South Adelaide’s Jeremy Smith (39) and West Adelaide’s David Sturner (37), with both Lycett and Smith potential winners prior to final round voting. Lycett polled 9 first preference votes, 5 second preference votes and 3 third preference votes. Smith polled 9 first preference votes, 4 second preference votes and 4 first preference votes.

North Adelaide’s Aric Miller won the league’s Most Valuable Player Award, voted on by coaches. The women’s MVP award was tied with Woodville’s Callan Taylor and Norwood’s Jess Foley.

The Merv Harris and Frank Angove awards for the highest vote pollers aged Under 21, were won by 18 year old Norwood Flame’s player Taylor Ortlepp and 20 year old Southern Tiger’s player Sam Johns.

It's easy to bag this event year on year, but this year was great. Only thing I would have changed would have been chip into the hour for mingling and give a live count of the last 6 rounds instead of the last 3
But a small complaint of a good afternoon

Always find these awards interesting. Congrats to all award winners. Just want to put forward an observation. The more big stars or the bigger the star there is in teams the more likely it is that award winners are not in a Grandfinal team. The exception this year though is to the Norwood players for making it with their superstars and being a superstar team. And cudos to the Rockets Women and Sturt Men for making it with their not so super stars but obviously fantastic teams... Should be ripper games Saturday night.

I'm curious with the awards. Who gets it more correct - the coaches (MVP) or Refs (Medals)
