Can 36ers afford to swing the axe on imports?

Are Adelaide in a financial position to swing the axe on either of the imports if they are not up to scratch, or is this something that they will have to live with?

It doesn't really matter yet weather the 'fans' like or dislike the imports already, either way, they will have to be given a chance to play first, before deciding.

Has anyone actually had a really good look at either, other than the 36ers themselves?

Considering SOS were supposedly less financial than the current owners and they did it in the past then I would suggest if Joey feels the need and can prove why then yes, they will?

Not asking for them to swing the axe, just asking if they are financial to do so. I remember them living through Mike Chappell!

You have 2 months to replace an import without having to see out their contract.

Once you pass the cut off date the import is entitled to full pay regardless of how many games they play.

Having seen the imports play I don't think this will be an issue. Ebi will give teams problems and Kenyon will be a solid role player. He hasn't been recruited to be a star as the 36ers have Aussie's to do that.

He will get the right players their shots in the right spot , play tough D and hit the open shot if the D sags on him.

Ahh, 36ers fans. Concocting plans to sack players they likely haven't even seen play.

No fan base wants a solid role player import. He wont last, cheap but reason for that. Ia it 2 months from gm 1 or signing date?

The thing a fan base wants is a winning team. Joey has always delivered that and there is no reason to think otherwise this season.

If you want to see 2 flashy imports play against each other and not win the NBL isn't for you.

Ibekwe could score, rebound and block, more than a role player IMO.

Ibekwe averaged 12 and 6 (largely off the bench?), and played about 21-22 minutes. I think if you told many 36ers fans that was who they'd lined up, they'd call that a budget role player and/or want them sacked.

Spot on Isaac. Ibekwe was the epitome of a role player.

Rephrase this particular group doesnt need a role player import... fans want star imports. We have the role players... of course great teams have had role player imports etc this team here may compete but not for a title.

Gone are the days of having 2 superstar imports and building around them. Now its about getting as good as possible group of Aussies together, and then filling the gaps with serviceable imports.

I beg to differ just think gone are the days that those import give you multiple years ala mark davis. But star imports are out there ready to tear up the league...

Do they? I actually want a TEAM that can compete every night. As FYI said, Joey has delivered that so far, so there's no reason to think he won't do it again.

It's about what your team needs. If a role playing import complements the rest of your team well it's a good signing. If no one else on the team can score in tough situations then it's not (unless their role is 4th quarter closer of course!).

Alternatively, if you've got seven guys who can score, then signing a star import who needs lots of the ball isn't wise, but a guy who'll defend, set screens and finish plays is.

Just on great role players, what about the garbage man Dusty Rychart, great role player. Knew his limitations and never tried to exceed them.

Dusty was only a role player in his latter years. Was a star early on in the blue collar worker mould. Had significantly better stats for the Sixers than Brian Conklin did in winning the MVP award last year.

No, he was an exceptional role player who got his numbers from just doing his job, cleaning up garbage. Role player doesn't mean you can't be a star, Vlahov and Vukona are two great examples of that.

Don't agree. In his first two years in Sixers colours he was a go to offensive player in the "big 3" (Maher, Farley) the Sixers were running at the time.

That is not to say that he wasn't exceptional at broken/hustle plays or that he wasn't great at playing his 'role'.

Vukona has been a seminal role player never got close to the star output Dusty had.

Are you putting Brian Conklin in the 'exceptional role player' category? If so, we are clearly taking about different things.

The league has improved a lot so big time imports are harder to find plus some leagues in Europe pay a lot more so thus in turn value of top live imports & also dual passport bball players goes up which forces up everyone's pay.

I think the last few seasons show 1 gun import 3/4 really top line locals and or 5 good locals and fit imports around them.

I love the way we are thinking of ways to sack players already

So anyway Ebe wont be cut no matter how bad he is. Joey's boy, but what about Kenyon, have heard some very worrying things about his game or lack there of, and god for bid being a business at this level, it would be important to know when the due date on potentially cutting him would be... anyone know if its from the day he signs in off season or 2months from the first game played in preseason or regular season...

It might be two months or 10 games can't remember when an import can be cut without their contract becoming guaranteed for the rest of the season.

Just wondering Isaac, who asked for them to be cut? The question was more about finances. FYI, out of interest, where did you see both imports play (recently)?

Not all those combos have role playing imports bench types. Plus some of the combos have one true superstar mvp type. The 6ers dont have that in either of their imports.

DQ was injured and we never saw his potential. Frye carved up the pre season before hurting by his ankle which he never recovered from in time.

Or more realistically Frye did well in the preseason when no one had seen him before and once the real stuff started and he had been scouted got worked out in pretty short order. Couldn't shoot to safe himself and didn't want to get fouled because he was a 29% FT shooter.

Both he and DQ were duds.

If they can't afford to communicate or post on social media for free I am not sure they can afford to replace ???

Except of course two recents important posts about premier league.

Teys Sobey etc are role players, like bonus material. DQ was brought in as an import, he was woeful, never was up to it... Frye I feel for because he could play some, but couldn't make a jump shot or free throw so when he did get injured that was it for him.

Why bring in a NBA second rounder who would instantly be a top 10 (5?) player in the league, when you can get a "solid" 34 year old instead

Im not exactly overwhelmed with excitement at this import combo, but if DJ can play like an import, Kenyon mist probably will just be bonus material anyways in terms of what we need from him. Im more concerned Ebe may take away from Dj's offensive attack but thats for Joey to work out. No team with the Aussies we have will suck but will they be tall enough or have to give up way to much energy just to grab enough rebounds to compete come playoff time. Let it play out, NBL is never as scripted!
