At the risk of stirring the haters, Sturt played in 5 of the 6 GFs at the Arena last night for 3 wins, Norwood 2 (1win), Southern 2 (0), Forestvville 1 (1), Adel Uni 1 (1) & Centrals
1 (0).

I can recall 15 years or so ago often mavs had 3 teams per age group. Last few years they seem to have div 1 and 2 teams only - but very high quality - usually their return ratio is high for the number of teams. Same with western 15 years ago 75% of these teams would have been woodville and 25% west reps

Mavericks have strong D1 teams up until 18's, at 18's they all play footy or netball and have no interest in paying $650 + $$$ per year for very little coaching or senior opportunities. The D2 teams are traditionally very poor in depth and quality.
Sturt have a good junior and very solid Senior program with progression from U/10 - Premier league a realistic pathway. Sturt have the haters, but they certainly do it the best.

mavs will have to do a centrals - mt barker council is the fastest growing council in australia.

they need to develop a strong domestic league and then transition these into district.

centrals have improved significantly the last 5+ years

Eastern Hills do have a strong domestic league

Centrals don't have a strong domestic league that then transitions into district.

They have recruited country kids.

Wrong, the Mt Barker domestic competition has no connection with Mavs. In fact the two bodies don't get along! They share a facility run by the YMCA in Mt Barker that is all.

Mavs have recruited SA Country kids for their 18's next season. Hardly a new concept for Mavs, they have done the same thing for years. Unfortunately it has never worked and is always a short term fix that other clubs wouldn't even bother with! They don't have the coach talent regardless of the horses in the stable.

Tigerman,

Might want to look at your own U16 boys team.

Or Norwoods U16 girls team.

Or Centrals teams

All have a large number of country kids.

They are playing in the D1 GF tomorrow night! All have played for the club from earlier junior ranks and only for Tigers. Well coached and well prepared.

134 is right.

I've heard who Mavs have recruited and unless there's a lot more to come they will be a long way behind the top two.

Mavericks don't look after their local base of players, they rather go for the "here and now" short term fix. Senior program has no trace of their juniors, just paid players that have no desire to stay long term.

To wrap up winning teams from GF (with D1 and D2 in brackets)
Sturt 10 (7)
South 7(2)
North 6(1)
Norwood 5(1)
Forestville 3(3)
Tigers 3(3)
Western Magic 3(1)
Wests 1(0)
Centrals 1(1)
Woodville 1(0)
Mavericks 1(1)
