Tt doesnt matter who wins, they are kids.

All that matters is how they develop.

Cairns and Sturt the best of the rest in the boys. Should be in the mix at the end though hard to see other than Melbourne/Keilor

Why is this held only for the 14 age group?

just tradition - it would be great for other ages - but it is a very draining year on those involved. Older age groups have state rep ball

bern there recently with my kids, just enjoy it. Let the kids have a great time, and keep it positive.

This will be the pinnacle of most of their sporting achievements so don't get carried away with who is good and who isn't.

This from the Forum guidelines(see link at bottom of page):

"Please try to avoid naming players who are under the age of 18, unless they have played at a higher level (AIS, ABL, etc). This is encouraged rather than being a strict rule, and it is done so at the request of a few coaches who are concerned about the potential effects of public discussion of player performance on young players."

Sturt took out Melbourne by 2 in OT with a 3. Clip on BA FB. Seb Griffin is a name to remember from this Tournament. Sturt for the Win GF. Last time was in 2005.

Why do they have a Shield Gold medal game and Bronze medal game which all it says is you are the 14th-16th best teams in Australia.

I think it is a joke and should not be a part of the U/14 Clubs championship.

13-15th*

But absolutely, a team busts their ass off, comes 4th & may have lost a couple of heart breakers, they d not get acknowledged... some over talented teams lose round games but get rewarded with a "best of the rest" medal. How ridiculous. Says a lot about the mindset of the sport in Australia.

^^ to give teams enough games and to keep those games as competitive as they can through the latter part of the tournament.

Why would you need a medal to be competitive?

Those teams playing for 21st-24th don't get a medal. Are you suggesting that they aren't trying?

Fantastic result for Sturt after being handily beaten in the Classic final.

Shield is a waste of time, but it's tough for teams that draw a really strong pool in the first round to be playing for 13th. You could conceivably be the 3rd-best team at the tournament and finish 13th, and BA's mindless seeding process DOES make that possible. A good example is last year where the Norths boys were comfortably the best team in NSW, but draw Warrnambool (finished 4th) and Centrals (finished 5th) in their first pool. Illawarra managed to draw Perry Lakes (finished 11th), NW Tassie (16th) and Southern Districts (22nd). So the end result is Illawarra 12th, Norths 14th, despite Norths theoretically being entitled to the weaker pool as the stronger of the two NSW teams.

That's sport though - sometimes you get a crappy pool & your ceiling is 13th, you don't need a sympathy medal to celebrate it.

There's no great way to seed the teams - each state is different every year, and there's no tournament where all (or even most) of these teams compete together prior to nationals.
