Erin Phillips out for the season

Not rushing back, saving for Rio basically. Here's Boti:

INJURY will keep dual-WNBA champion and Beijing Olympian Erin Phillips from hitting the court in the WNBL this season.

A disappointed Phillips, who quarterbacked Adelaide Lightning's last WNBL championship in 2008, now is making participation in the Rio Olympics her primary objective.

The first player signed by the new South East Queensland Stars of the WNBL, it means she now will not play a game in the club’s inaugural season.

Bad news for the WNBL but a positive for the Opals programme.

We'll need her court smarts and 3 point shooting if we are going to challenge for the gold!

Mitchell is now the front runner for the starting PG spot.

Mansfield is doing a great job in her absence anyway, so SEQ will be just fine. They already have Bec Allen just about to return, it almost seems unfair that they had Erin up their sleeves as well!

Glad she's thinking long term and taking a cautious approach.

You would think shyla will get a spot with the u17s next year with all the experience she's getting at wnbl training.

I don't believe Erin is getting paid while being injured so she doesn't have any interest in returning to the club to help with the playoff push, whereas LJ has been paid 1 million for 7 games so probably feels the need to get back out on the court when she can.

Erin would be getting paid. Insurance would be covering it.

If she was getting paid I'm thinking she would be in QLD doing her rehab around the team, helping out at practices and clinics, etc, and being the face of the franchise instead of hanging around SA and the COE.

#560978 - what insurance is this, her own personal policy?
