Thanks for posting these. Don't be afraid of posting the individual game threads too. Might encourage people to post about WNBL games a bit more.

I reckon this format works well for now. With games not being viewable other than in person there's not all that much we can say about each one unfortunately.

Some good games this round.
You'd expect Sydney to win tonight. Sportsbet sure do! $1.05 vs $8.00
Rest of the round looks much more competitive.

My fingers are crossed for Bec Allen to return to action and come through it unscathed. Wonder if they will play it safe and only play her in one game of their road double.

Should have tagged it in Women, sorry (feel free to move it Isaac). The cricket came on, and I was distracted.

My understanding was that Bec Allen was coming back next round? Anyway, the good thing for the Stars is that they can take their time working her back into it. Although, this will be the most challenging of rounds for them, they've met just about every challenge so far.

It's a ladder logjam! Great for the league and engrossing to watch unfold!

Unfortunately it is very hard to get into this WNBL season, especially with the NBL so easy to get into.

I wonder if Canberra's start to the season is the worst of any team in the WNBL? I Couldn't be bothered wasting time working out their losing margin this season but they seem to have been thrashed every game except 1. While the West Coast Waves were terrible the last few years I don't remember them getting flogged every game like Canberra have been. I doubt they will win a game all season, Sydney should smash them by 40+ tonight.

Just got back from the game, nice to see Jess Bibby make that historic milestone and she said a few words after the game that were well received by the crowd. Unhappily nothing much else went well for the Caps and to make matters worse, Bish may have picked up an injury. Montgomery also went down with what looked like an ankle problem. Former Flame Tania Smith played for the Caps. I cannot remember the last time the Caps were kept to such a low sore.

I miss the ABC coverage - makes it hard to make judgement on any other team other than your own.

The Clubs have to take the lead in making their own home games more accessible. It isn't that hard. But regarding the old ABC coverage? Well, it was what it was. Something is always better than nothing. I miss it too, but if you're trying to grow recognition of a league, in retrospect the ABCs coverage was far from optimal.

Yes, MUCH better than nothing.

But I agree that it shouldn't be all that hard for clubs to produce something shareable. They are still required to video all their home games anyway, right? It doesn't need to be NBA-level production quality.

BA does absolutely nothing in promotion of the game. The crowd numbers at the venues are dismal (bar a couple of clubs and it isn't by chance that the few clubs marketing and growing their organisations have strong crowds). The live link doesn't help the clubs put bums on seats and in turn bring revenue to them. Fans need to support their teams more. This is high quality sport and it's not overpriced

I miss the ABC game a lot, I watched almost every game since the early 90's... only watching one game a week and the half time report on the other games was good enough to pretty much know everything about the league and all teams. It would be so awesome if foxtel picked up the league and showed a couple of games a week, maybe the Friday night and sunday game. I loved it when the ABC showed the Live Friday night game.

@Andy Totally agree. Feels like the WNBL doesn't exist any more. Pressure should be put on Westpac, CBA or NAB to support women's sports.
Westpac even had a female CEO and did sfa to support women's sports. At least ANZ gets a tick.

I'm all for that, and you would think that an airline in conjunction with a bank might see the netball 'footprint' of Australasia as a space to compete in by sponsoring the WNBL as it is, or even an expanded version of the WNBL to re-include a New Zealand presence. Side notes abound. . . how about a Uni of Western Sydney type franchise to take in the GWS catchment or even one in Newcastle?

Good games happening tonight. Anyone got any thoughts?

Very good performance by Smart off the bench for boomers, but what's going on with Thompson? Now lost her starting spot a few weeks back and now hardly playing. She wouldn't be happy with that at all. Hopefully the Boomers bounce back against SEQ

Great game between Bendigo and SEQ.

Bit of a shoot out in the first quarter, Richards on the inside and Jarry on the outside with Mansfield for SEQ.

Griffin while quiet offensively, was always there on the defensive end (looked slightly proppy on one leg at times)

Tussle in the 3rd quarter, Joy Burke with the butter fingers, don't know if she's ready for WNBL level? You'll have to see her, I'm not sure how much of it has to do with 'learning the WNBL' way.

Jarry with two dumb and cheap fouls got her sent off, bit lippy to the ref and got a bench tech as well.

Griffin stepped up in the 4th taking a big charge, crowd was going off due to Snell receiving a ridiculous call earlier in the game for a drive, perceived to be pushing in with the shoulder (joke).

Stallworth had foul trouble, Ibekwe did good at times, quiet at others, seemed Mansfield and Jarry were taking the load.

Great game to watch.

Seems like both games last night lived up to expectations. Critical points coming from the benches arguably played key roles in the results. How important were Chalmers points at Bendigo? And at Dandenong, Downie's influence at key moments appears to have been decisive.

Some posters above have asked questions about Oliver and Thompson for the Boomers, but in last nights game the stats suggest that Maddie and Alice going a combined 2 of 15 was a more important factor.

Difference between Dandy and Melbourne ended up being the stupid tall ref who was inconsistent all game and gave a number of soft fouls down the stretch that kept sending Dandy to the foul line. Foul shots were 32-13 or something close. Can't have refs influencing outcomes of games. Having said that Dandy were leading most of the game and prob deserved to take out the game

Stars and Boomers backing up today will be interesting. Morale and fatigue possibly coming into play.

Reckon that the Lynx will be back at their best today. No doubt that they'll be aware that wins now and in the next few rounds might be easier to get than in Rounds 8 and 9.

The refs at Dandenong were all average. For both teams at times. The amount of travels missed was astonishing and the guessing of out of plays shocking. Felt for Downie when she smacked Veal in the face. She really hurt Veal but it was just reactionary and nothing to it. She would be feeling pretty bad because she is a fair player

Massive win by the Flames today defeating TVille in TVille this afternoon. It was a close tough game for most part with the Flames showing more composure down the stretch to ice the game. Former Fire player (Wilson) having a good last qtr in tandem with Tupeau to get the chocolates! (Mod: Removed at the request of Mikaela Smith.) He was almost out of control & certainly lost his coaching focus when perhaps he would have been better off addressing his own players? TVille have been talking up this team being better than last year's team but so far I'm not seeing that, the Fire have already lost 2 home games this season! We'll so how good Lucas is as a Coach if they can't turn things around quickly.

They're a very good team but on paper I never thought they looked quite as dominant as last season's version.
Loving the Flames. Looks like Swords' minutes quite restricted by foul trouble yet they still found a way. 9 boards in 20 min for Boag, after 10 in 16 on Friday.

Relieved to see the Lynx get away with the road win in Adelaide. Definitely was not taking that one for granted.

Tough round for the up-and-down Boomers. This weekend was the down version.

Very happy to see Bec Allen return to the court :)
My equal favourite SEQ thing right now is Lauren Mansfield. She's killing it this season. Get her into the Opals mix if she keeps this up. Leading the league in assists with 6.4 per game to go with 15.7 ppg @ 45% and 4.4 boards.

Went to the Lightning/Lynx game yesterday.

Another great turnout for a small venue.

Lightning could of easily won this game, too many missed open looks (30% from the field/Woeful 14% from 3)

Ruef battled hard again with another double/double, Mitchell and Bowen struggled with their shot.

Great battle between Mitchell & Lavey @ PG. I have a new respect for Lavey who I never really rated. She impressed me running her team with 16pts & 5 assists (5 turnovers though)and made her shots.

Lynx have plenty of weapons, will be in the mix!

Great that people are posting game eye-witness stuff! So, thanks for all above who have.

With Lavey, I've always wanted to reserve judgement until I'd been able to see her complete a WNBL season as a starting PG. She's in the process of doing that now (for the first time) with the Lynx. And doing a good job as well. For Lavey and this goes for Burton too, they'll be much better players because of the tough challenges they get this season as part of an almost entirely new roster. I hope the GM retains the nucleus of their team because the sky is the limit for the Lynx over the next few seasons. And I haven't seen anything to suggest they won't be amongst the teams vying for semi-finals.

@Luuuc - I watched the Lynx in person and I agree with you that they don't have much of a bench although no team other then Dandy really does. And Dandy's starting 5 probably isn't as high end as some of the other teams.

Technically having Mijovic coming off the bench should be a weapon although it isn't playing out that way right now. Could they run some minutes with the big 3 in a 2/3 zone and Mijovic at the 3 spot (she doesn't want to go in the key anyway)?

Anyway I'm a fan of the squad and think they'll compete for 4th.

Thanks for your thoughts.
I'm not trying to knock the Lynx at all. Far from it. It's been 15 years since there's been a Perth team with a realistic chance of post-season action. It's a welcome change believe me!

I like the team and the style of game they play. Not the most solid, but certainly entertaining to watch, and it suits the players we have.
If I had to guess I'd say we will likely miss out on the top 4, but there's no shame in that in a league where 1 through 7 are all pretty good teams.

Mijovic ... yeah ... her paint allergy makes your suggestion ok, but as much as she loves a 3 she's shooting them at a bricktacular 27% so far, and because she's our only other tall when Nat or Louella need a rest or get in foul trouble, she probably needs to stay on the bench while they're on.
Her + Edmondson make a dangerous duo off the bench, but on any given night flip a coin to see which team they'll be most dangerous to.

If not the best bench, Sydney's has to be up there. When Cox is fully fit and Rendell is ready to bring extra height and press for minutes from the bench the Flames will have close to the squad originally planned. Rowe as well might be ready in December? Considering what Carly Boag, Alex Wilson and Casey Samuels have already contributed I think the Flames have a good bench.
