I think they would be a great duo/working partners.

Just a thought, what's peoples thoughts on the play by play calling? I mean it's not like the AFL. Sometimes I feel like i'm watching an AFL game or listening to the game through radio. Reckon they could dial it back a bit and use two colour commentators. Breen is the perfect play by play commentator in Basketball - commentators the major events/significant plays within the sequence.

But otherwise, commentating has been great.

Gaze (IMO) is getting back on the bandwagon after wanting to shut down the league. Before he starts his commentary, he should be seen to be publicly supporting the league and discussing his previous lack of! Yes he was one of the best players of all time, but what has he given back to the game lately? (I am happy to be corrected). It just seems although it's all about him or nothing.

Next will be Carfino, Woods, Cometti, Quartermain and we'll be good.

I don't think he is self-absorbed, just not necessarily the sharpest tool in the shed. He wasn't the only one to say the league needs to be shut down, just the most prominent. Like many others he made the comment about shutting the league down without considering all the implications while pointing to the A League as a success story.

He's basically the Dazz of the commentary world.

If the league shut down for a period longer than 12 months, BA would regain the rights to the NBL for free. Gaze is on the board for BA and was calling for the league to sit out a year... that has a lot to do with why those in the NBL took issue with him and part of the reason I believed he wasn't commentating.

IMO, Gaze has been suffering from chronic hurt of the butt ever since the whole Tigers --> United thing went down, and that has been at the root of much of his attitude towards the NBL.
Whatever it was, I'm glad to see he is getting back into it. Just silly having a league legend and great ambassador being on the outer.

If Carfino came back as the non play by play guy id almost be cool with that too. Gaze is good to have back, be interesting to see how he goes getting behind United knowing they hold the keys to a Melbourne Tigers comeback. Rights to the name and all.

I was glad to see the "old guard" of commentary take a well deserved retirement, but as the season wore in I realised that Gaze really was an important cog in all this. Just a genuine, likeable guy with a girth of basketball knowledge and a love for the game.
