You just cant bet decent money on the 36ers they have no consistency about them at all. Im looking forward to this one, but have no idea how the 36ers will play. Heart says 6ers but every other part of me says Cats will grind it out.

36ers will miss Creek tonight. However I think if they can make it up tempo and put the pressure on the Perth guards they can win. Hodgson will be crucial tonight against the Perth bigs and Ebi needs to step up without Creek. Will be a close one imo

All hinges on 36ers D & rebounding. If the 36ers can get stops, rebound and get out and run it will put pressure on the Perth bigs.

Also need to keep a tight leash on Beal the moment he steps over the half way line.

Gibbo needs to play both ends to ensure his opponent has to play both ends.

If Ebi wants to prove his doubters wrong tonight is the night...

Creek definitely out... and peach under a bit of a cloud too...

with it expected to be a top of 39 in lil ol RADeladie i hope they have had the air con on all day...

ill be there

mid week game always going to be a low crowd...

nature of the beast...

i think it will be close one too...

so long as it is abit more entertaining than the crocs game which i found 'flat' and spent most of the second half clock watching to see how long i had to endure it for...

anyways

i am looking forward to tonights game was a good game last time they met!

Is jawaii playing this game, I heard he had a back injury through the week?

Hoping Randle can take advantage of no damo and possibly Kenny to help us over the line. Big game for Ere, if Hodgson can also provide some quality minutes that'd be great also - really impressive this year considering he's our 9th/10th man.

Re ticket specials, they've been doing lots of it lately. Also, members price for the restaurant buffet is $25 for adults - try eating out with oysters for that price!

I haven't seen any updates on Jawai's back since it was mentioned on Monday that he had to leave training.

Yeah, that can often be a case of how it feels in the warm-up and then through the game. He hasn't been playing as much late in games recently, with Jervis saved early in the game and playing more later. I don't know if that's just how it's played out if that's been a plan?

I think up until now the plan has been very much based around taking whatever we can get from Nate. Since his rough start he has looked good, and we look a different team when he's in the floor - as in one that is actually capable of scoring some points.

Recently Tom has stepped up, but even in that Hawks game where Tom was instrumental in our comeback and Nate was average, he was still brought in for Tom in the last few minutes, so I think that tells you what Gleeson's mindset has been when it comes to Jawai.

Tom was excellent in both games last round though, so Gleeson now has some real options. Not a bad conundrum to have, trying to find minutes for 2 good centres.

I think Adelaide may get up for this especially, if they run and gun.
Mitch Creeks defence and ability to finish at the rim even with some contact will be sorely missed.

Luuuc, exactly. When you look at the odds and don't want to touch it, they've probably got it right. That said, if it's not appealing to someone (anon thinking a Wildcats win is a surety) then the bookie makes nothing because everyone sits it out.

Another example is Melbourne vs Townsville with Conklin out. The United win odds are very short as you'd expect, so you check the line. -13.5 last I checked - starting to get risky. At -9 I'd take it.

Well if the Sixers want to resurrect their season now is the time to pull the trigger on Ere. Play him Saturday night then say goodbye. Get someone here in time for Perth on 4/12.

Nine points, three turnovers, four fouls in 20 minutes - just not getting it done.

He had been improving until this game, let it slide.

There is a lot to like for the 6ers. Their offence flowed well all game and the Randle and Gibson backcourt is as good as any in the league.

Ebi's handling errors at the very start and very end of the game were just.... ugh.

Marcus, imports are expected to perform. Plain and simple. And they're the only expendable players on a team's roster because genuine available Aussie talent is hard to come by. Good overseas players are dime-a-dozen. So what if the likes of DJ, Teys etc. had bad games... Ere is meant to perform. If you guys had a stud, or even if you literally threw a dart at a board of American 2-3s who could shoot the three, they would 1) be better than Ere, and 2) be another guy to rely on if other players don't produce. You can't even rely on a 'decent' game from Ebi, he's past it.

You know you have a weak argument when you're saying Teys had a bad game... he's not expected to produce! You're just picking different players on the roster at this point. Oh look, Sobey only got six points tonight, that's the reason you lost!

If your comments about Ebi aren't a troll then I'd love to have your outlook on life my man. Glass half full always. Kudos to you my friend

If there was racial abuse being hurled at Jawai, that's disgraceful.

This team will not compete for playoffs unless another change is made. Ebi isn't getting it done consistently and can be replaced - the other guys can't be. And Ebi's defence is as bad as anyone's, he can't keep anyone in front of him.

^ tl;dr... a team has a group of guys that are expected to go out and get the job done. For the Sixers it's Randle, Gibson, Johnson, Petrie and Ere. Ere is just not doing it. Making things worse, he's an import. Cut him, Sixers, if you have any dollars and sense.

Johnson's turnovers at the end of the third quarter and again at the end of the last quarter really hurt. The Sixers scored when they ran an offence, passed the ball around to get someone free, which dried up in the last five minutes of the last quarter, hence the lack of scoring, mentioned above. His shot selection isnt the best either. He is the sentre but keeps on putting up three pointers when there is no rebounder.

So frustrating to see games thrown away the same way time and time again.

One thing I did notice was that there isnt as much switching on defence for switching sake. Defenders are actually trying to get around screens. Not all doom and gloom.

The jacket throwing was the biggest highlight of the night.

@Touch the rim

Yes, imports are expected to perform, but to differing degrees.

On a team with such a strong Australian contingent like the Sixers, Ebi could still be a contributor without being a top 2 or even top 3 scorer.

I have never suggested that Ebi's performances are great, in fact I have been clear that I can see much room for improvement, in particular scoring efficiency. Overall Ebi is improving from the start of the year and I have seen enough promising signs to keep him.

I think its unfair to focus on Ebi, when there are far more pressing issues to consider read:team defence.

Marcus Camby, who was responsible for Prather & Redhage lighting up the first half - (predominantly) your man Ebi.

Who was responsible, even switched sides to do so on the FT to block out Wagstaff - your man Ebi.

Who at a crucial time down the stretch just fumbled the ball and lost possession....wait for it....your man, clutch Ebi.

Everyone knows he is crap, we are stuck with him and we wont be going anywhere with him as our second import.

Teys role is is to play great D and keep the defense honest by being in the right spots on offense and hitting any open shots that come his way. His defense alone tonight nullifies the accumulated things Ebi has done all season!

WTF is Ebi's role...ohhh that's right, great team man! That's not going to win you a championship!

DJ often plays out on the perimeter against Perth. It's a tactic to try and draw their bigs out.

Hodgson needs to learn how to stay out of foul trouble.

Peach again misses lay ups.

Gibbo over dribbles the ball and we are too reliant on Randle.

There was a lot more wrong with tonights performance than Ebi but he is a pretty bloody big problem - soooo many people at the game can see it!!

Why the F Joey would take Walker off down the stretch when he was playing well and put Ebi on is beyond me??

Ebi was clutch for the wrong team and Joey out coached himself!

"Unders is the play, gents"

Touch The Rim must of been assuming Adelaide would play at both ends tonight.

Ebi is such a waste of space these days. I hope he is not earning much.

Marcus, team defence was better tonight apart from Ebi's matador impersonation. I'd say a fair chunk of the 'team' defense issues stem from Ebi's inability...whenever he is on we are playing 4 on 5.

If Ebi's defence is so crap why does he lead the Sixers in steals?

Again....not saying Ebi is perfect, but his improvement and being a great presence in the locker-room and having the trust of Coach Joey warrants some grace.

Walker did return, got a steal, a nice drive, a couple of nice rebounds in the 4th.

Maybe in this one game, it may have been more prudent to leave Walker on instead of Ebi.

Ohhhh boy Ebi Ebi Ebi, couldnt guard a corpse. Cant make a shot, not what the 36ers need in his import spot. The team defense is horrible especially in the first half, but he was lost so many times trying to guard various Cats. Got to go, its laughable at this point, Joey wouldve cut any other import producing what he is. Guess that friendship is too important to him.

Haha #350, yeah splash city in the first half, but 71 points were scored in the second half. Was sheer wizardry in that first 20 mins. Pace slowed, everything slowed, and I just assumed they would play like that for the full 40

DJ has been stinking the last few weeks too. He can't cope with being the box and rebound centre for a whole game he sucks at it and he can't perform offensively when he's been posted and pounded on the boards. He's handling and offence is below his norm for sure.

"Marcus Camby, who was responsible for Prather & Redhage lighting up the first half - (predominantly) your man Ebi."

So what you are saying is there is no help defence in this team.

Thank you.

Thank you for illustrating what I have been saying all along.

Ebi is the fourth-highest scorer on the team, cannot defend, is shooting FGs at 37 per cent and 3s at 33 per cent. And the looks he gets are actually really good on the whole.

The dude's paid to score, yet he doesn't even have a better PPG than Mr Once-A-Fortnight Adam Gibson

Both of Ebi's FG and 3pt percentages are actually 35, while Gibbo's are 43 and 39 respectively.

Get literally anyone in place of Ebi and the Sixers would be better off. There are so many to choose from in the NBA D-League alone. There's a kid Kelsey Barlow who I really like the look of. Reckon a lot of eager young Americans would jump at the chance to play some ball in a foreign, yet familiar country for 3-3.5 months and get their name out there

35% from three is good. His field goal numbers overall are meaningless without knowing how many are threes.

That one he bricked off the side of the backboard tonight made him look pretty awful, though.

Let's not forget that ebi was brought in a the primary import. I assume his role was to be an instant offense type player coming off screens on the wings and using his good jump shot. However he's now having to adapt to a new role since randle came in. Randle is a very ball dominant guard who needs the offense built around him. He is putting up great numbers and the sixers are scoring well since his arrival so i can't complain. However you guys need to be realistic with your expectations of ebi in such a system. He will not get the ball much on situations where he can do damage that goes for any potential replacement too its just a function of the teams style with randle. I give him props for playing the team role when he could have been upset at no longer being the prime import

Yeah 35 is good, hence why it's wrong. It's actually 20-63, 31.7 per cent over 11 games. Not so great

FWIW, before last night's game Ere had hit 34/99 field goal attempts, of which 19/58 were 3 pt shots. This is from the NBL stats page. last night he hit 4/9 of which 1/5 were 3 pt shots.

He has the lowest shooting percentage of all the 36ers but for McNeail and Sobey.

Have we ever seen two coaches who constantly whine at the refs, both of them need to focus on the stupid errors there teams are making, rather than the refs.

Gleeson needs to work on our in bounds passing after a bucket by the other team. We seem to struggle getting it in after a score, teams who can play a decent full court press will make it tough for the Wildcats, i mean last night Matt Knight at one stage was bringing the ball up, that is asking for trouble.

Yes Joey has to do a lot of work on our defence but least got a lot better in 2 nd half , yes I know could not got worse.
Now that work in progress and can only hope Joey up to improving it or only playing players that can provide some resemblance of defence.
But only 1 decision is going to get close to saving this season is replacing Ere as his defence well really doesn't even offer any .
Any player at 35 is really over the hill and only the real super stars last ,but they don't turn up for a season way out of condition like Ere has.
And no not getting better even Marcus not even trying to say that and now can see struggling to continue to defend him.
Really some of his stuff ups remind me of some of our bad no 10 players like Jason Williams etc not a highly paid import.
And even though setting him up with open shots he can't get anything like decent score.
If Joey won't do it then come on owners put some pressure on as with no scoreboard etc you need some positives like Randell to happen.

So Camby you're going to deliberately ignore the fact Ebi can't keep anyone in front of him defensively, constantly gets lost on rotations and just blame a lack of help defence? If he could actually do his job defensively he wouldn't have to rely on others to constantly bail him out.

@Marcus Camby

I didn't illustrate anything that you have been saying Marcus! There is help defense but when you are constantly having to switch to cover for someone else it wears you out, creates mismatches and if the other team is half decent they will exploit that...why do you think Perth came out firing with Prather and Redhage attacking Ebi and exploiting his lack of D? Get your blinkers off!

Team leader in steals for Adelaide, that’s your defense in claiming Ebi is a good defender?! F me, you’re even more deluded than I thought! What does he average 1 steal a game? How many offensive plays do the opposition have a game? There is more to defense than picking up a steal from time to time you moron!

Creek isn’t the best defender but we sure as hell wouldn’t have been exploited like Ebi was had he of been playing. You can sugar coat it all you want but Ebi is 90% our problem on both ends of the floor, the other 10% is Joey playing him and keeping him.

No need to reply to to Camby directly he is a troll that just likes ruffling the feathers but hides it well because he doesnt name call get emotional etc

We all know the team we currently have, although with some very handy players on it, wont win these type of games too often. Ebi was a bad call to start with, seemed like either a favour for a mate, or lazy recruiting or both.

Koberulz you think he was brought here to bench warm, of course he was brought in to produce a lot, like he always did.... 10 years ago. They too the punt on him and he rocked up out of shape and unable to play defence. Its not his fault for taking the pay check, its the clubs issue.

Something has to change, to kickstart the season, the defence, the wins column and the morale. Imports usually get the flick when things go wrong, Randle isnt going anywhere, so who is left....

I don't think Joey would give a mate a job if it was going to cost his team a finals spot.

Joey would always be looking out for wo else is available to come in and strength the team if possible.
Last year he pulled Brock Motum out of the air, he's already done the same with Randle this year and Im sure he's stil looking.
Joey is a professional and likes to win. He might make mistakes ( as we al do) but he will kleep trying to win.

With the new Wilson deal I think that guys like Danny Granger or Carter Martin aren't that far off the mark. We need another offensive weapon and those guys would definitely be that for us. And btw we haven't passed the deadline for imports to get their full salary if they are cut.

Johnson / Hodgson
Granger / Petrie
Creek / Walker
Gibson / Teys
Randle / Sobey

That's a contender and stacks up well against every other team, including United

I've somewhat patiently been backing Ere to at least find enough to be a spot up shooter playing 15mins a night as the season goes on, but I, like it would appear most, have had enough. It was actually that late play where we needed a three, he had a decent look but instead decided to drive into 4 defenders and turn it over that did it for me. Shows that his mind isn't what it used to be either.

As for the game, I don't know. I actually think we have potential with our team, but we just can't get on a run (win-streak wise). Our defence is obviously an issue. But we keep on putting ourselves in winning positions only to fall to pieces down the stretch. I mean, that missed Walker layup to put us up 4 with about 2 minutes left was a killer. What could have been I guess.
Anyway, hopefully they can get back to .500 on Saturday night.

Finally, the flopping rule has become a joke. I mean, the refs have just lost all confidence in making the right call. There were three (?) last night. I can only remember two but they were both terrible calls. It's hard call to make on the fly, but lasts nights seemed particularly bad.

Win both away against Adelaide, win both away against Hawks, lose a close one away to United that got a ref stood down, lose a tough one away to NZ with a big 4th quarter comeback.

Lose two to Townsville.

Team defence is essential to winning games. Teams are rarely blessed with 5 brilliant individual defenders so team mates have to help.

Prather is a quick slashing player, yes he is faster than Ebi, thats why you need help D, you are never going to have a situation where every defender is better than his man.

Randle blew past Kenny with ease, does that make Kenny a bad defender? If teams didn't do Help D, Randle will be scoring 30+ a game. The Wildcats bigs had to come cover for Kenny when he got beaten, sometimes Randle scored, sometimes it forced Randle to pass it off as he ran out of space.

Off the screen Perth bigs know how to help. Case in point...Knight shows on the screen in the 4th, knows Randle has a penchant for splitting the D, closes the gap, gets the steal for the breakaway.

Again...I am not saying Ebi is perfect, I have said often there is room for improvement. However, when discussing how the TEAM can improve, it must start with Defence first. Even if you got a better defender in than Ebi, you STILL have defensive holes like DJ in the middle or Randle exposed. This is why Team defence is more important than one player.

Blah blah blah. Ebi is shite he needs to go. Get a better import and it all changes. Anything elae tou say is piss in the wind stuff. He is the weakest link champ

Reply #565541 | Report this post

I somewhat agree with you Marcus (did I just say that???).

However, Randle is already a weak link defensively and DJ at times is suspect although he has been a lot better this year I think (except for Wed night, he just had a shocker all round and I think it has a lot to do with little help - especially against the big Perth frontline).

But, Randle and DJ are our best offensive weapons. You can't have 3 defensive weak links on the court at the same time, especially when that 3rd offers nothing else at the other end as his opponent is just getting a free ride.

So, Ebi is the weakest link and the easiest to replace and improve upon - therefore, he has to go.

SixersFan - great team and I agree, would be more of a contender than we currently are!
