Preliminary Final Reviews
Here are Colin Thompson's preliminary final reviews. 9AM Monday morning, very timely effort from Colin!
Women: North 83 defeated Sturt 68
Last year's premier North Adelaide Rockets earned the right to defend its 2004 championship by defeating Sturt Sabres. The first three quarters involved a tight contest. The Sabres had kept the Rockets to only 8 points in the second quarter to gain an advantage at half time. The Rockets fought back with a 28-point third quarter to hold a narrow lead at the final break. The impetus was maintained in the fourth quarter where veteran Tania Dhu and Erin Phillips steered the Rockets to victory. Erin scored a game-high 25 points with 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals while Tania Dhu shot 5 of 6 three-pointers in her 23 points, together with 7 rebounds, 3 assist and 2 steals. Monique Bowley finished off arguably her best season for the Sabres with 16 points, 15 rebounds and 2 steals. Next week's Grand Final will be a repeat of 2004 when the Rockets meet the Eagles.

Men: Woodville 113 defeated Sturt 105
Woodville Warriors moved into the Grand Final after defeating Sturt Sabres in a high-scoring game. The Warriors established a lead of six points in the first quarter with Andrew Puddifoot sinking 11 points. Former Warriors, Darren Ng kept the Sabres in touch with 12 points for the quarter. In the third quarter the Warriors established a match-winning break with Puddifoot adding another 8 points and Paul Rees producing his season-high 23 points. In the final quarter, despite the efforts of Darren Ng, Oscar Forman and David Shepherd, who produced six 3-pointers between them, Sturt was unable to bridge the gap. Andrew Puddifoot (30 points and 10 rebounds), Matt Elder (16 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks) and Mark Fuller (15 points and 11 rebounds) produced double doubles for the Warriors, helping to give their team the edge on the boards. Oscar Forman topped off a great personal season for the Sabres with 22 points, 14 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 assists.
