Opals: Rio Test Event

Probably worth its own thread to discuss the matches.
In the mean time...

Rio test will give Opals an edge says Joyce
http://rio2016.olympics.com.au/news/rio-test-will-give-opals-an-edge-says-joyce

"I can tell you that we'll be doing different things. I'll be experimenting.
...
I've got 12 players and I'll be giving opportunities for all of them to play."

I should have included...

"The Opals play Argentina early Saturday morning (AEDT), followed by Venezuela on Sunday and Brazil on Monday."

I thought Penny Taylor was replaced in China by Maya Moore, but the article says she's busy over there. Which team is she on now?

Anon, Penny was indeed replaced in China by Maya. She's currently hanging with Diana in Ekaterinburg. (She was in the stands during their last Euroleague game)
I too was hoping she would make it to this Rio event. The timing seemed perfect.

Sounds like Erin is playing. Seems like there is probably more to the not playing for seq story then what went to the media.

Dang, Taurasi has managed to hurt the Opals without even being on the bloody court.

Brazil is down some of their big girls with WNBA experience, but I reckon that game will be a good measure of our side.

Anyone know what time the first game tips-off?

Brendan wanting to experiment and use all the roster should be good! He's got a wide variety of resources to use.

It sure seems like it!

Reporter: Brendan, talk to us about your stars like Penny Taylor and Liz Cambage.

Joyce: Look, Tess and Nat are so important to our group, and they do things most people don't see, that's why they're in the team.

C Batkovic 11 rbds in 18 mins
Pf/C Francis 9 rbds in 17 mins
Sf Allen 9 rbds in 13 mins
Sf Talbot 6 rbds in 24 mins
Pf/c Burton 6 rbds in 21 mins

Burton did ok,
Be interesting to see how she does against a much better and bigger Brazil.

Yes those are OK stats for Burton, but its 23 mins against Argentina. The opponents on this tour aren't going to be giving her the problems she faces weekly in the WNBL.

Is griffin still a possibility?

I'm still hoping for..
Phillips/Mitchell/lavey
Taylor/Allen
Talbot/jarry
Francis/penaluna/tolo
Cambage/batkovic

But it seems as though he wants burton in the squad and potentially madgen also.
