Lakers sign Mozgov for $64m over 4 years

Lakers, Timofey Mozgov have agreed to four-year, $64 million deal.
Seems like an hilariously high price to pay for a guy who rarely got minutes late in the season for a team starting a PF instead. He averaged 1.2 PPG in under 6 MPG during the post-season just been.

Is it simply a case of few alternatives?

When he actually gets good minutes he can produce. Being in LA he will have the chance to play some more minutes. Not really the big splash that they needed or that fans wanted though.

Even if there wasn't many alternatives, did they need to pay him that much to get bring him to LA?

Oh how the mighty have fallen, Jim McIlvaine and Jerome James eat your heart out. The Lakers must've been told to go jump by Whiteside and Durant won't even meet with them.

yea needed to pay them that unfortunately have to spend at least 85 million this year since that is the floor for every team

Seems pretty crazy money. But this was predicted to be a crazy off season after all!

Surely they can get him cheaper and then spend up on someone likely to be more in-demand? Batum?

Doug, I think you're probably right. Poor fans have high expectations!

Batums signed with Hornets. This will be the best free agent get the Lakers pick up who wasn't there last year

Dwight Howard is only worth $10-15 mil though.

Movgov is a solid big though when given the minutes. Will be interesting to see how he goes at the Lakers with major minutes

Its hard when fans have high expectations.

It takes two to tango. They could make the perfect pitch and sell the franchise beautifully but ultimately it comes down to the individual in question.

FA players these days are looking for so much. Literally so many factors come into a decision now.

People won't just go to LA anymore because the climate's good.

They just got Luol Deng. Definitely makes up for the Mozgov fiasco
