NBA DLeage vs overseas league

Keen to hear thoughts on where the best imports are coming from.

When we think of players like Randal and Casper Ware these are guys that have played in professional leagues and have created an impact almost immediately.

Compare that to the NBA D-League which has brought us a lot of players where it is more hit or miss around performance.

My assessment appears to be that recruiting an import who has played in professional leagues will be more experienced and generally have a prove track record. The NBA D-League or college lack the quality or intensity so its more of a lottery ticket if the player will be effective against bigger stronger and older players in a professional league with experienced veterans. You might get a James Ennis but in most cases probably not.

Thoughts ?

A college player with a full 4 years in a division one program, preferably with Final Four experience is IMO your best bet.

Agree with Wilson Sting. Look at Trice as an example of that.

The big advantage with chasing someone from (or who would otherwise be in) the D-League is money.
Even the lowest paid import is probably making more than he would in D-League.
Whereas we'd struggle to compete with what Europe pays.

The other thing is trying to KEEP those players. You need a big hook. Ideally you want guys who fall in love with Australia, like the fact that we are very similar to the US, but on the whole a bit safer. Or somebody like Randle who said he rediscovered his love of the game playing for Joey.

Quality wise, I think somebody like Prather is ideal. Good college background, made all-conference, spent a year in the D-League. He's obviously still chasing his NBA dream, but seems to like it here, and either isn't quite good enough or isn't interested in Europe.
