Breakers-Perth Make or Break Time

This is a clash of the pretenders.
Both teams have shown they could be finalists in waiting. But nothing is for certain.
Perth have always given us fits with their aggressive defence and our ball handling woes.
But Perth have always struggled to shake us and when it has come down to close games we have usually had the edge.
Perth are better placed now with the addition of Cotton offensively. He gives them a ball handling "go to guy" down the stretch.
Dillard is the Breaker response and he seems to be well equipped to do the same job and he is probably more valuable to the Breakers.
Penney and Akiil Mitchell have really benefitted from Dillard being aboard. If Carter will settle for throwing up 7 or 8 threes and the odd drive to the hoop, that could be all that's required to get us over the line.
Pledge will put pressure on Knight and MacKay.
Loe will get half a dozen open looks.
Promises to be a titanic struggle.Perth D vs Breakers O.
Breakers at home to hang on by 6.

Will be a contest if cats can shoot 30+ % from 3 which has been rare recently. Also if gleeson will keep the right players on, Brandt in a hot streak shouldn't be benched.

Even then if NZ is hot I can't see cats getting close, not enough scoring power.

Yawn fest. Dillard individually is fun to watch but this is being grounded out, breakers need to get out and run. Cats don't look a happy team, body language etc guess I'd be pissed if I was good enough to play at this elite level and had to put up with my coach being a whinging jerk. Cotton has been a complete non factor. Don't expect that to last, so breaker will need to be clutch from the arc.

What a way to ruin a game! that unsportsmanlike foul was abysmal, Dillard has as much of Kenney as he did of Dillard!

4 pt game when NZ hit a three after a shot clock violation was missed on them and the golatend they got away with, that Cat haters is a 5 point swing!

How could i forget the dribble into a double team, pick up the dribble then dribble out that was not called.

Absolute joke of a game, refs decided it as per usual.

Also don't give me the Perth needed to shoot better crap, NZ gave us enough extra opportunities to make up for that, this was pure and simple disgusting officiating with an huge home court bias, I mean when Casey Frank is saying the cats are getting stiffed it must be true!!

Grow up, get over your bias and simply admit high quality basketball was the looser today, it was offence vs defence and we were all robbed of the chance to see which would prevail.

Considering the simplicity of the missed calls goal tend, shot clock and double dribble (non contact calls) I would suggest it is the worst officiated game.

"Was the worst officiated game since last Friday... Kenny was man handing Dillard. It is what it is, glad he was picked up on it. Crucial time to make the ref make a decision."

And Gliddon's hip made contact with Cotton shooting a game winning shot, so by your own argument you shouldn't need to bring up last Friday.

The issue here is that Perth lost 2pts, and NZ scored 3 of a missed shot clock in a 4 pt game ( not sure after illi's double dribble if NZ scored), that is inexcusable to miss, that is on the refs and those calls have cost the game.

The crap fouls go either way (everyone is bias here) but these are simple rules that were messed up badly.

Dont blame the refs for this loss, the call on Kenny was correct. You cannot foul a player before the ball is inbounded it is an automatic tech foul. The rule was put in to stop players fouling with no time running of the clock.

The Cats also got smashed on the boards 46 - 32 . they couldnt come up with crucial Rebounds when it counted.

"Never heard of an automatic unsportsmanlike foul either."

FIBA rule 37.1.1:

"An unsportsmanlike foul is a player contact foul which, in the judgement of an official is:
...
• Contact by the defensive player on an opponent on the court during the last 2 minutes in the fourth period and in each extra period, when the ball is out-of bounds for a throw-in and still in the hands of the official or at the disposal of the player taking the throw-in."

Gleeson has never been a good offensive coach in his 1st year he struck gold by getting Ennis an NBA standard offensive talent who carried Perth to the title. In 2016 he had a front court loaded with talent.

Even then he managed to he was not using Jawai in the right manner.

On the game: Actually a decent fight by the Cats. There's clearly a big mental issue when it comes to playing in NZ. The reverse isn't true, but Cats always struggle. Just shows the league is still very close. Scheduling is shit, but that's how it rolls.

Knight has no range at the moment, he can't hit anything but right next to the basket. Even then he is missing some!

"Gleeson has never been a good offensive coach in his 1st year he struck gold by getting Ennis an NBA standard offensive talent who carried Perth to the title. "

this sounds likely, are you essentially saying he rod Bevo's offensive legacy ?

Bevo didn't have an offensive legacy. Gleeson sure inherited his defensive legacy though.

Got the result but terrible performance. We were 10+ points better than Perth., who I thought were woeful.
We have to have a better plan against the press. Commentators were right about the inbounds, almost directly into a double. How many 8 second calls did we have??? Attack it, pass pass and get an easy 2.

The out of bounds plays in the front court were a disaster in waiting.
Setting up the stack at the FT line means players have to go too far to where they can receive a pass. And when they break up is critical too. You could see each option shut down in slow Mo. We were lucky Kenny fouled Dillard. If he had not we did not have a pass on then either.

Penney was great esp getting loose inside. Carter, ball handling aside will help. Got such a beautiful shot, pure poetry. He just needs to take more of them.

Adelaide off and gone.

Breakers (12/12) have got Cairns (H), Sydney (A), Adelaide (A) and Melbourne (H). We need at least 2 games to be in with a chance. Probably the first two look the best chance but we can't chalk up any result until it happens.
Going to be fascinating.
Assuming (probably a mistake) that Brisbane Cairns Sydney are not going to make the playoffs. They could have a big say in who doesn't though.

Perth (11/12)have Melbourne (H) Brisbane (H) Cairns (A) Sydney(H) Melbourne (A),
Illawara(12/12) have Adelaide (H), Cairns (H), Melbourne (A) and Brisbane (H).
Melbourne (11/12) have Perth (A) Sydney (A) Illawara (H) Breakers (A) and Perth (H).
Melbourne Perth games huge.
What happens in the event of a 3 way tie for 3/4/5 slots?
