Josh Childress signing

Just saw Childress has signed with Ice Cubes big 3 competition. Interesting that it's mainly a has been league apart from also just signing GOAT Scalabrine. Know he's financially secure but would think while he can still play he would sign to play actual basketball instead of a freak show league. Not a long season but with Knights probable retirement, could he be viewed as a replacement there despite his very public run in there a couple of years ago.

Childress is what the 36ers were missing this season!

An actual import point guard that makes players around him better is what the sixers were missing! the ball was not moved in the clutch, hence losing crucial games!

Replacement for Knight?? Firstly Childress is an import, and secondly do you really think the cats are going to replace one injury prone player with a more injury prone one...

Yes, I do realise Childress is an import, however if the Wildcats do have an opening for an import spot he would be ideal to replace Knight. And yes, he does have an injury history, but Knight was basically held together by sticky tape in the end and any bump would knock him out, Childress at the Kings was arguably the best player in the league when healthy, why not sign him.

And how often was he healthy? Knights injuries cost us a few games this season, there's no way the cats would use their import big spot on an injury plagued player that would cost them big money. Sorry but this makes no logical sense.

Sorry, but I just have to disagree with some of the points above.

If Knight retires, the Wildcats will need a minimum of two new locals to replace he and Redhage. This is assuming the the squad stays at 11 and imports at 3.

You're correct in that depending on whom the Wildcats choose as locals could influence their 3rd import slot however they would be choosing a PF or Center, not another SF.

Also the Wildcats can't afford to have somebody as injury prone as Childress.
Childress would be a good option for team that was already stacked with local talent and could afford to take a gamble on its 3rd import

It might not be worth an import spot, but injury-prone post player has been an integral ingredient in our success over the last several years.
Maybe Bogut is who we should be aiming to recruit :p

Childress is a 3 man stretch 4 at best, totally different game to Knight.

He's not a Knight clone, but imagine him, cotton and Prather. Money they save on Knight and Redhage would be a good start and it seemed he liked the league so might take a discount again. However I don't think he would like Perth. As to injuries, even though he's older, he wouldn't have to carry the whole team like he did at Sydney.
Most here seem to be knocking him, but was the biggest boost the league had had in a long time, apparently was extremely community spirited, and was definitely MVP if not for injuries. Maybe he could bring a few of his big3 teammates down under, would buy season courtside seats if we could get iverson, but there's no chance of that.

No one is knocking him, he just isn't even close to being a logical replacement for Knight. Quality consistent imports are more important than ever, the cats would need him to be healthy to win another championship....and there's no way they would take that risk. All in all childress to the cats as a replacement for Knight makes no logical sense and would never happen.

"but imagine him, cotton and Prather"
So Childress sitting on the bench watching Cotton and Prather. Mmm, there's an import spot well spent.

"Most here seem to be knocking him,"
No, most here are just getting exasperated pointing out to you what should have been obvious before you started the thread. Not only is Childress never a replacement for Knight, but another SF is the last thing they need.

"but was the biggest boost the league had had in a long time"
Which is also something the Wildcats don't need

As to above points, how many imports sat more than played ala Ferguson, Williams from united etc. Childress was without doubt MVP when he was here, but played huge minutes and often had no help. No question, he wouldn't be sitting on bench, would have reasonable minutes in a talented team. I don't understand how he would be sitting on the bench, one of the best imports to ever play here, you're an idiot if you still think he hasn't got it.
And I believe he led league in rebounding so would be a combo forward, not just a 3, it's not the NBA here, could easily match-up with bigger players.
And what's the point about mentioning that he was a boost the league needed, duh, of course Perth don't need that, but they were one win from not even making playoffs.
Not saying he was going or definitely should sign with Perth, but with them looking for a player to replace Knight, he would make them unstoppable.
So what are Perth looking for dopey, an unknown quantity at the 4, or a MVP type that could carry the load when prather disappears on the road which he did most of the season. Could walk in immediately and be a top 5 player, be managed injury wise and be good to go for playoffs. You don't think he would be more valuable than Knight? And he might be cheap considering he could buy the whole league with petty change he got from his NBA payout. Loved the lifestyle here apparently so just tone down the hate a bit please.

And if it was still a 2 import league I agree he would be too much of a risk, but Perth sacked how many imports. They could do the same again with him if he gets injured or isn't working out, my point is he's a known commodity rather than getting some guy that could be the next Devin Williams or Christopher's!
Would you trade injury plagued local who the best replacement was Lucas Walker or an import who can be replaced by thousands of other imports if he gets hurt.

Did the 36ers or Melbourne with a championship this season? No, the cats did because they had 3 productive imports. Do you the Adelaide or Melbourne intended to have those guys be role players, absolutely not. Imports are hit and miss, had Ferguson or Williams been more productive, these teams would have been even better, obviously. You can keep arguing the point but it is a silly proposition.

Anon, Childress to the cats makes no logical sense and no it will not make them unstoppable!! It will hinder them having an ageing player that will be lucky to play 10 games in the season whilst getting paid good money. The people making these decisions at their respective clubs have a lot more experience than you and there are reasons Childress isn't currently in the NBL. He is old, injury plagued and who is going to take a risk on an expensive player that isn't going to play half the season. You sir, don't have a clue.

Anon, be managed injury wise? LOL, do you not think Sydney attempted that when he could only string half a dozen games together??? And Childress is a known commodity, but not what you think, he looked less than impressive in the d-league last year, hence why the best contract he could pick up anywhere in the world was in the Japanese B-LEAGUE! There is a reason why GM's and coaches at every club in the world have not made him an offer.

and Lucas Walker isn't a done deal, its speculation and even if he were staying with the cats he would be replacing Redhage not Knight...

Ok, I see where you're coming from.
Sacking Johnson helped them win the championship, so next year they should sack more imports.
Good Thinking 99.
