Andrew Gaze inaugural Melburnian of the Year

From The Advertiser:

Champion basketballer Andrew Gaze has been named the inaugural Melburnian of the Year.

At a gala dinner for 700 people at the Melbourne town hall last night, Gaze was presented the award by Lord Mayor John So.

The five-time Australian Olympic champion, who has played 23 seasons with the Melbourne Tigers basketball team, said it was a bit of a surprise.

"I consider it a tremendous privilege and an honour to be recognised in this way," Gaze said.

"I think in a city like Melbourne and a state like Victoria with so many amazing contributors and so much talent, to be recognised in this way is very significant to me."
Well deserved!
