Australian Junior teams announced

I saw this on Basketball Australia's Facebook page.

Now I am really confused. I thought that the Men failed to qualify by losing to New Zealand in the Oceania Final? Article here: http://basketball.net.au/jayco-gems-book-place-at-2017-u19-world-champs-but-emus-fall-in-gold-medal-game/

Am I missing something here?

You are correct.

This is the start of the Under 19 campaign for the World's in 2019.

The top two teams from Oceania quali's in Guam (July 2017) will proceed to the Asia Championships to be held in 2018.

Then the top four will proceed through to the U19 World's in 2019.

Boys team is what I thought It would be.

Girls team was a little surprising with puli and George being selected.
Thought maybe bloom and Motuga following ajc u18s.

Match up with the Marshall Islands looms as a huge game for the girls team, make or break, do or die in this clash of traditional rivals!

Oh, by the way Rees isn't close to 6'5",

Was there an actual squad that went into camp, or did they just pick the team?
Very unusual!

Darcy Rees is 194cm, so pretty close to 6'5.

No camp. Very unusual. I thought that Bloom would make the team after AJCs.

George 6'1?? I thought she was taller than that.

Only one in the squad not heightening appears to be Shelley. Seriously, I know the yanks quote their heights in kicks plus an inch, but do we really need to start doing the same?

The heights are off the list that BA provides.
If they are wrong, then it's there fault or the states that provide the information.

If team had 12 then Dent and Stoddart in.

Best 10 picked so well done to who ever selected or involved.

Glad to see they awarding teams that win at nationals and not the states who finish 6th -12th.

Bowen is a revelation. Been playing with Shawn Redhage in his State League team and you bet he's learnt a few things. Needs to get some meat on him.

The team we could have had would have put us on the podium at worlds. Pity all those guys overseas couldn't make oceanias.

No McDowell-white, Stattman, Humphries, Gak, Froling, Maker, Epperson, Kiir

Anon^, those guys you listed as unavailable were exactly that, unavailable. There were others who were overlooked that would have helped us against NZ and they were available. Also have to agree that we relied too much on our three point shooting and not enough on rim protection and selecting some more bigs against the Kiwis should have been a priority.
