Breakers sign 6'10" James Hunter

Hunter has been splitting his time between Australia, where he has made his home, and Invercargill, where he has been playing for the Southland Sharks in the Kiwi NBL. But the hoopster will now add Auckland to that list of bases as he looks to forge a fulltime professional career.

The 2.08m centre/forward, who averaged 8.1 points and 5.5 rebounds for the Sharks in the 2017 NBL while shooting 45 percent from the field and 59 from the free-throw line, has won his big opportunity on the back of an impressive recent stint with the New Zealand Select team in China.

The Breakers press release said they intend to sign three imports to complete their roster so Hunter is likely the 11th man.

Hunter is the 11th man on the team. I believe the Breakers will be going for two imports - and I hope Mackenzie Moore is one (played very well as an all-round 1/2 for Canterbury in the NZ-NBL).

The last Kiwi spot will fill the gap - either a 2/3 if the import is a combo guard or vice versa. I'm backing Rusbatch who can swing to the 2 if needed (gives us some depth).

The likely squad:
Pledger / Loe
Vukona / Delany / Hunter
Abercrombie / Rusbatch
Penney / Moore*
Import* / Ili

It won't be Moore. a) he's a pretty divisive character around NZ Basketball circles so unlikely to ever be picked up at the next level and b) he's just signed in Greece.
