36ers sign import Ronald Roberts

Adelaide sign Ronald Roberts according Olgun Uluc.

THE Adelaide 36ers have signed athletic forward, Ronald Roberts, sources told foxsports.com.au.

Roberts will join the team as an import on a one-year deal, sources said, adding a high-flying presence to the 36ers' Australian-centric roster.
The New Jersey native was named a D-League All-Star in 2016, averaging 18.1 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game, in 24 starts for Toronto.

Roberts, 25, last played for the Tofas S.K. in the Turkish Basketball Super League, before suffering a knee injury at the end of 2016.

Didn't see it in the article, but he's 203cm and about to turn 26.

Good interior scorer but no outside shot. Scrappy fighter. More in this draft profile. Sounds like a good complementary piece for guys like DJ and Deng who do have range.

Brings back memories of Rolan Roberts and that dunk contest.

sounds like he is the beast we need. Good block. Good d. Loves offensive rebounds and creating his own shot. Not a awesome shooter, but with our team he doesn't need to b.

It seems he hasn't done very much for anyone for the last few years due to numerous injury riddled seasons. I hope he can show up healthy and stay healthy.

Back in 2015 he had pretty good hops.

For half a second I thought that was Roland Roberts and that we were really scrapping the barrell...

Video of highlights from the D-League. He looks energetic on offence and keen on defence:

A couple of his dunks made me think of the Alabama Slammer himself! Hope that knee injury isn't an issue. If he's fully fit he has some nice complementary skills next to DJ and Deng. Free throws an issue by the looks, but we have enough good big men that it might not hurt too much.

He's got some serious bounce in that video hopefully his knee is good to go. It did end his previous 2 seasons early though so it's a bit of a worry.

Assuming we get Ramone Moore, that leaves the final vital piece in the point guard spot. Kevin Dillard would be excellent.

A rebounder and a shot blocker is exactly what we need to shore up interior D, from the video look aggressive too.

This signing sure looks very promising, and looks to be an improvement on Jacobsen already.

Well done Sixers.

Good news, his free throws were much better in his last G League season: 3.6/5 per game = 71% (24 games).

Sounds like the kind of guy who will rack up 3 quick fouls in the 2nd Q of every NBL game.

I would've thought the same thing, but his draft profile specifically says that he was half-decent at keeping out of foul trouble. So, fingers crossed.

And in the footage, he seems to play very good/quick defence, often straight up before going for the block.

Angus, if you read his scouting report posted up higher, it pointed out that he did well not recording many fouls, averaging about 3 a game.

Just have to wait and see how our refs call it.

If history is any indication, any import that defends well and plays with energy is almost guaranteed to get called for soft fouls around the basket.

Anyone been able to find any info on the knee injury? Seems he was out 6-8 months so ACL assumed?

Couldn't find what type of injury he suffered while at Tofas. Its the same right knee he injured back when he was in G-league and that was patellar tendon strain.

Hopefully he recovered well, looks like an exciting player to watch.

Unfortunately, that's a foul in the NBL.

Well his knee issues are already publicized, so he might not last long in Perth Arena.

At his first sixers game Randle off the bench shot 3 threes , so refs quickly called 2 fouls on him . Not surprisingly he was back on the bench in an anticlimax.
This guy is exciting to watch. but a ref-centered nbl spoils it.....

If this signing it true its pretty disappointing that the 6ers themselves are not the first to announce it. They could learn a lot from the way Perth and Melbourne communicate with memebers and fans.

Swish, It's not uncommon to hear about player signings before they are made official. In fact almost all signings seem to be rumoured & then reported by media before the club can announce them. Boti suggested Moore a while back now but he probably can't be confirmed by the club just yet. This happens all the time with inside journalism.

If both Moore & Roberts are signed, something within NBL rules would be preventing the club from confirming it officially. I'm sure the second they can, they will.

So you disagree that import bigs don't get a fair shake from the refs, or just keeping up your witty and insightful trolling attempts from last season?
