Subbing During Free Throws

Here's the scenario.

Red V Blue.

Red player at the line for 2 shots.

As he takes 1st shot, Blue coach subs while Red player is shooting 1st shot.

Red coach complains & ref sees he wasn't aware of subbing while shot being taken.

Ref restarts the 2 shots.

Correct decison or should Blue cop a tech?

No subs are allowed between first and second free shots.

Sub is allowed only after 2nd free shot and scores, then ball becomes dead for subs.

No need for tech, just tell coach subs can only happen after 2nd free throw.

Thats all understood.. (& we're talking about a rep game here where coaches AND refs should know whats going on.)

Problem here is that the ref wasn't aware of subbing happening WHILE player was shooting free throw.

It was as though as the subbing was taking place during play rather than a break in play.

Example:
A1
is awarded 2 free throws. Team A or team B requests a time
-
out or
substitution:
(a)
Before the ball is at the disposal of the free
-
throw shooter
A1
.
(b)
After t
he first free
-
throw attempt.
(c)
After the successful second free throw but before the ball is at the disposal of the
player taking the throw
-
in.
(d)
After the successful second free throw but after the ball is at the disposal of the player
taking the throw
-
in.
In
terpretation:
(a)
The time
-
out or substitution is granted immediately, before the first free
-
throw attempt.
(b)
The time
-
out or substitution is granted after the last free throw, if successful.
(c)
The time
-
out or substitution is granted immediately before the
throw
-
in.
(d)
The time
-
out or substitution is not granted

But the FT was happening WHILE player was shooting FT...

As in actually shooting the ball. Thats when the sub walked on... simulatneously as FT was being shot.....

This is my last attempt to get someone to understand & reply.

It depends on if any referee signaled the player on.

If so then it's an umpire error.

If not then it should at least be a warning/reminder that players need to wait to be signaled on but it can also be a tech foul depending on the level of the game.

Sounds like a simple misunderstanding and as such, the FT are started again UNLESS the FT went in. In this case, count the point, talk to the coach; move onto the second FT.
No need to blow the situation out of proportion.
