WA SBL - September 2017

Well this is it, the Grand Final. Redbacks vs. Wolves. Lako vs. Etteridge. Redhage vs. "other people's juniors wah wah".

I've noticed for the last month throughout the SBL postseason odds get posted up for every game EXCEPT any involving the Wolves men's team. Same applies this weekend - the women's final on tonight has odds up but not the men's. Bookies uneasy about Wolves or suspect something? Very strange. Wanted to check out the odds to have a feel what they think of the game. Anyone know anything about this?

The FIBA live stats used by the SBL is crap. The play by play is upside down, out of order and you can't see anything other than the almost current occurrence. It would help if you could see the scoreboard as well.

0/5 now for the Magic in grand final attempts. 7th title for the Lady Hawks, 12th in total for Perry Lakes. Farnworth a worthy Grand Final MVP winner, with 26 points and 8 rebounds - she stepped up big in the 4th. Hats off to Gilday, she was brilliant

It's exactly the same as every other FIBA Live Stats page.

You can see the whole game, if you go to the Play by Play page.

Surely we have better announcers in this state than Mr I'm just going to shout into the microphone all game. Seemed way more excited than the players and most of the crowd as well as he didn't even get players pronunciations correct. Absolutely sh!t look for the sbl. Anonymous: So many wolves haters. Made more Grand Finals than any team in recent history.

Joondalup have made many grand finals but Ettridge's complete arrogance to not make changes and talk trash throughout the season and a below normal showing from Illiadis and Huntington in the last two Grand Finals are the reason they have been out classed both times in recent years.

Cougars out played them from start to finish and Redbacks did the exact same thing. Congratulations have to go to Perth Redbacks, regardless of the fact you don't like Lacko, the team got the win.

From what I can tell, Joondalup preach being the league leaders yet they have only won 2011 and 2015 and way back in 1993. Actually no different to the Cougars who have won a championship more recently than the Wolves in 2016 and also won in 2012 and way back in 1992. It seems to be every year either of those teams win a chip, the other one is close to follow.

Willetton are the biggest disappointment. One championship in the entire history in the Mens. Considering, how much money they have poured in over the years, the only one they could get was thanks close to the most Willetton based team they ever had.

Worth noting the last 2 (2016,2017) they started as heavy favourite's (with the bookie anyway).
So question has to be asked should the Wolves move on with fresh start?

Really? The last 6 mens grand finals have been won by an average of 21 points. Only 1 of those last 6 was a close game. The close grand final was a wolves loss to lakeside in 2013, every other game was not the tough affair that you speak of. Are you sure you've even been watching the mens sbl grand finals?

If they go back and get A grade NBL Fringe Aussie like previous years (excluding 2017) and 2 quality imports they be fine and always in contention.

Doubt Moot will retire when he still has a decent chance at a chip.

Cooper Land won it last year, also wasn't in the All Star Five. Not that rare, you just don't follow the League as well as you would like everyone to think. Miegel very deserving COY winner. Hawks had a veteran Tall Fern and an Opal, plus a strong local contingent. Wasn't a heck of alot to improve with coaching wise. Mandurah however were the surprise and credit has to go to Miegel for being able to make it all work down there. Holmen had nobody to take votes off him so was always going to poll well, though if Redhage plays the whole season he wins in a canter

Miegel took a 12-10 in 2016 to a 19-3 season and a grand final, I wouldn't call Doccy robbed as such when you have Burton and Edmonson in your team. She won her COTY award last Friday night.
Nix I'm a bit surprised about but of the teams ahead, they were expected to be there.
I thought Nener would have been a good chance.

"you just don't follow the League as well as you would like everyone to think." Ouch

Since the SBL introduced all star fives in 2009, Land in 2016 and now Holmen in 2017 are the only MVPs to not make all star five. Difference with Land in 2016 is that he led the Flames to 5th and 17-9, whereas Holmen led the Giants to 12th and 8-18.

"the classic great player on a bad team" - most definitely

Pal had a very average year in the SEABL. Some games struggled to get on the court. Only grabbed double figure rebounds in 6/24 games. He will likely still be highly sought over here, as a league that lacks legitimate bigs outside the ones you can count on one hand, he will likely dominate again.

The original select team was pretty good, but work and other commitments from the players meant that they had to take a team which wasn't that strong. They got beaten by a pretty stacked side yesterday. They had their chances but when you only have 9 guys who are all 3-4 weeks removed from their end of season the tank is probably a little dry. Good effort really with what they have at their disposal.

In regards to the above comment
"The constant turnover of coaches in two of the 4 regional teams is troubling."

I wouldn't say troubling, it's an unfortunate part of our game, but it's something that's been ongoing since these clubs were formed.

You'd probably find that in 90% of the cases over recent years, the reason for departing is often work or family commitments, it's rarely performance based, or management issues.

Most don't realise how much extra these regional coaches have to accommodate for as part of their role.

There is the extra media commitments and scrutiny, with TV, radio, newspapers and online all being dominant in those regions, where most metro clubs are lucky if they get Community News involvement.

There is the extra community involvements that come as being the sole club in that region, plus the fact they have full time jobs that sometimes take them away for work.

Sometimes things like the above actually make it a bonus to be a part of, especially when they have on-court success that gets them into the playoffs and deep in the finals, but it often means that the longevity of these coaches isn't often what their metro counterparts enjoy.

Aha. So that club team they played first must have stacked itself with imports.

Anyway enough about the D team that went to Malaysia.
What other teams have signed imports for next season? Surely Kalamunda arent the only ones.

Nope I think a. Bunch of teams are finalizing Aussies first. There will be a lot of changes I think. Heaps of guys and teams look to be moving or changing completely.

Wow how will Benjamin fit in with a share the ball culture of the Wolves? he shot 30 shots a freaking game at Gero

^^^ his stats were just less than 19 shots per game at 51%.

Haha yeah cheers for that mate, I was describing the fact that he shoots a bucket load. He shot the most shots in the L last year by far. 20 shots a game in a 40 min game is pretty nuts. Dont think he will be swinging the ball to their locals

ADCDEFG: If you have an import on your team that leads the league in scoring and shoots above 50%, particularly as a guard (not a big) then you do not complain if that person shoots the ball. Even if he was shooting bad shots, which he didn't really.. shooting 50% on bad shots is pretty impressive.

He shot above average from the 3 pt line as well. Check his stats...he shot under 20 times from the field more often than over.

If he plays aggressive like that it will open things up for guys like Trian and Ironmonger a lot more.

You don't really make any sense..

where is hussey going? hawks? or is the chance to play with Vague, Ellis and Wroe to much to pass up?

Why would he go to Stirling and play with Wroe? That makes no sense at all.
He would be better off somewhere where he could be the lead point guard. East Perth, Perth, Hawks and Lakeside would all be better situations

perth = wagner, east perth = mason bragg

would be a good fit at hawks. and he has just played games for matt parsons....

I would think with the Benjamin signing that Hussey would be heading back to the Wolfpack.

Looks like someone has edited the wiki to delete it now. Here is the original: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Liam_Rush&oldid=795868355#Post_Basketball

Not at all, happens every year as dress rehearsal before the opening game. They run the full show, cheerleaders, marching band etc. Few seasons back the Redbacks played a scrimmage match against themselves, Wagner posted the photo on his Facebook if I recall.

Wildcats DP squad won by 10. Pal top scored and Hussey really struggled.
