Aussie (and a few others) all keep nominating Bolden, Maker, Simmons, Exum etc), fine players BUT not they are just starting out and you want to put them up against hardened players with international experience first up. Let them at least prove themselves at senior level and then see if they are still good enough for international comps. They are good but no where ready.

An 18 year old just played a major role for the European Champions, and that would be a much harder competition than anything the Aussies will experience.

not ready my arse. Kobe Bryant, Jordan started playing for the USA when they were 19.
If you are good enough, you are old enough.
The squad in the opening post is obviously
not good enough, that is why none of the players are playing in the nba.

not ready, LOL
let's pick Adel, Bolden, Simmons, maker when they are 30 plus in 2028 Olympics.
what an idiot.

The starting 5 will probably be

Exum
Mills
Simmons
Maker
Bogut

Adel and bolden likely in the 2nd unit.

An 18 year old has just helped Slovenia won the European championship gold medal. He played major minutes and was a key player for Slovenia . The 18 year old was also named in the all tournament 1st team starting 5.

If the 18 year old is an Aussie, you can bet for your life that this kid would be no where near the boomers squad. Instead, he would most likely be a development player for an nbl team with plenty of DNP~CD next to his name.
This is how conservative, lame and useless the Aussie basketball selectors are.

@Anon154 - if we could produce an 18 y.o on the level on Doncic he'd be a star NBL player and a lock for the Boomers!

We haven't ever produced one at his all round level so young ever! Simonds was great at 18 but not at the level of Doncic in terms of game understanding/tempo and all round threat

Reality, that is just bull.
Maker, Simmons, Exum are
3, 4 years older than Doncic and some people reckon they are not ready for the boomers. LOL

Simmons is a better prospect than Doncic anyway. He should be the key player for the boomers right now.

If doncic is an Aussie, he
would be a development
player for the Sydney kings and no where near the boomers squad. Laughing my ass off.

will McDowell white has arguably the same level of talent like doncic, but he is no where near the boomers team. The boomers selectors should hang their heads in shame.

Exum, Bolden, Maker, Simmons and Adel would be obvious locks for 2020 though they will be only 23 to 25 at the time we will have enough veterans to play alongside them in Dellavedova, Mills, Bogut etc..

Doubt McDowell White is anywhere near Donkic level.

Doncic isnt old enough to be drafted.

I agree with player selections. aussie selectors have been very poor.
Especially at junior level..
Just look at the farce that was the World u19s.
Boys didn't even qualify and women's team finished 6th after some baffling omissions as well as those not selected.
Imo u16 team for Asia and possible next years worlds also questionable.
A lot of boys not even making the camp and girls who have never contributed at club level let alone state level and end up making the national team.

Too many players chosen on potential and it really hasn't worked out for BA.

Senior sides are the same.
Brondello likely to field a side full of vets.
World Cup qualifiers for men will not include ogilvy even though he has been the standout center the last few seasons.

Etc etc.

For Doncic to be picked up and actually player meanful minutes for a team like Real Madrid at 17/18 years old means he is miles ahead for Mcdowell-White who wouldn;t see the end of madrid's bench let alone be on there scouting radar.

If these young guys are so good they will force senior teams to pick them by dominating...maybe even playing some senior SEABL might help!

I look at so so many players that come back from D1 college that don't even have big impacts on SEABL level let alone get near an NBL squad shows that just cause Mum and Dad thinks your a boomer doesn't mean you can actually play at that level.

@koberulz, you are in great form on this topic. Love your style.

Anons, in general, you need to understand that it's not a matter of whether the Simmonses, Exums, et al, should be picked for this squad. THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE. You would be stupid to pick them for the Australian team for this tournament, because you'd turn up to play, and then wonder why they weren't there.

Back on the original topic of this post, I don't understand why so many people seem so keen for Humphries to be part of this team. He hasn't played much College ball, and hasn't played one minute of NBL. Guys with much better credentials abound, even if Lemonass has pretty much made it clear that he wouldn't pick some of them if they were starting NBA players (and WERE available).

I'd go with:

Martin, Lisch, Norton
Goulding, Sobey, McCarron
Newley, Creek
Andersen, Johnson
Ogilvy, Hodgson

I know a lot of people have listed Cadee, but I think the team needs at least two pure PGs. Cadee and Lisch are both combos, and arguably are more SGs than PGs. Cadee would be my injury replacement guard.

Sobey and McCarron both have the ability to swing into SF, and Creek is versatile enough to play SF or PF. Kickert would be my injury replacement forward; with Blanchfield instead if a SF went down.

I think this team has a very good balance of defence and offence, as well as veterans and youth.
