End of first: Kings 30 - Hawks 23.

Ellis on fire, aggressive and hit 2 3ptrs already. AJ already on 2 fouls. Leslie is also aggressive and in attack mode.

So far the Kings' interior defense and rebounding are a far cry from their previous games. Looking good so far.

The rest of the Kings' intensity went up a couple of notches after Lisch came down. Desperation is a funny thing... this is almost like a finals game.

0-3 in a close comp basically stuffs your season.

Playing 9 of the first 12 games on the road they won't win many road games at all.

For a Team that wants to score 100 every Game, Norton, Kay, Johnson and Martin might want to show some aggressiveness at some point.

Defensively the Hawks look slow and individual. They are even stagnant on O, which is a huge no no for Bevo.

It really looks like Martin is done and Norton looks timid.

I agree some of the Hawks players shouldn't have been brought back but it's hard to make that decision after getting to a GF. To be fair to the Hawks they started last season 1-4 so 0-3 isn't that big a deal but White, Forman & Martin would be lucky to make another team's roster.

Gaze said in the presser it looks like Lisch has a grade 2 calf tear best case scenario is 3-4 weeks and worst case not worth contemplating so said they'll probably use their vacant third import spot on a replacement for him.

While it was a much needed win for the Kings. As a long time kings fan, I'm disgusted how Garlepp is being treated and to make matters worse, gaze subs him in with 2 minutes left in the game like he's a development player.

No coach in their right mind would play Singh before Garlepp!! It shows me the best Australian basketball player is clearly NOT a coach!!

Yeah, I found it interesting that Garlepp is now the "human victory cigar" and the fans were cheering on him to score a basket like he was a development player who has never scored before. Similar to Bo Liu last season.

Speaking of which, what happened to Liu for this season? Gaze was talking up his potential last year.

If I were a Kings fan I would be a little bit worried about how much Gaze was talking up Singh at the presser. He was raving about a couple of crucial boards he got and saying there are glimpses of real potential with Singh.

Maybe a big Indian sponsor has got on board because of Singh so that's why they don't mind having him on the roster.

Gaze also said there were a number of reasons why they never signed a third import and keeping one spot up their sleeve for something like this was one of a few reasons.

The Kings organisation led by JVG is about marketing to the Sydney public and doing so praying they win games.

-Hire Gaze as Coach to attract sponsors
-Sign Bo Liu targeting the Chinese community
-Sign Singh to attract the Indonesian community
-Sign Deng Acuoth to get support from the Sudanese
community.

All of which has failed and they are second last on the ladder.

Not sold on Conga. His handle stinks and is a streaky jump shotter at best.

Looks like he always wants to go right. Easy to scout.

Carfino made a good point they should start Clarke to get some offense early on.

Kings wanted Garlepp out. Garlepp will tough it out. No offer made to buy him out, they just hoped he would walk.
Poor treatment for any player. Would never have happened under the old watch. Piss poor Kings.
JVG is the instigator and facilitator. Gaze hasn't got a clue about the politics.

Rumour going around is JVG and Gaze have agreed on pressuring garlepp to quit avoid paying him so they can put his contract money towards a 3rd import.

Gaze is proving to be the not so nice guy we all thought!

Hawks looked very ordinary for much of the game. Maybe time to restart Rotnei if other starters aren't going to spread the floor?

Ellis was excellent for the Kings.

The 'Kings pressured Garlepp' line is nonsense. Mischievous crap sprouted by idiots. He was told up front in the offseason that he was free to explore other options and if he found another opportunity, he would leave with their blessing. No other club wanted him so the the Kings told him that they were going to honour his contract, but that he wasn't going to receive much, if any court time this season. To suggest anything else is a lie.

Not that this was going to end well either way, but I wish they had cut him at the end of last season. Thank him for his service, pay him out, say something nice about him on social media, and any hard feelings would have dissipated by the time the 17/18 season rolled around. Plus it would have left them in a more flexible position around the third import. But because they didn't do that and the average fan doesn't understand what's going on, especially when Gaze is playing scrubs like Singh and Pineau ahead of him, you can understand why there are so many hard feelings among the fan base right now.

How does this fit in with your story?

Perfectly plausible that they didn't think he was good enough and wanted to look at other options. But they haven't found anyone better, so if what you're saying is true Gaze is benching Garlepp - and hurting the team - purely out of stubbornness. Which, frankly, is barely any different from the narrative you're attempting to refute.

Has anyone noticed just how bad Perry Ellis is defensively?

He gets a bucket then loses it next possession on the other end of the floor

He's not on his own there at the Kings, I feel for the couple players that do play defence.

Ellis was never known as a particularly strong rebounder, so no matter what anyone says, 2rebounds isn't a huge surprise... Disappointing still, but not a surprise... A great offensive effort, but as others have said, if he gives it back at the other end, it's not as much use in the overall scheme of things...

Lisch going down really hurts us, but am I alone in thinking that even defensively, Lisch wasn't really at the top of his game? I remember thinking more than once the last couple of games that he was getting beaten by his man more than what should be expected of someone with his reputation...

Was great to get a win, but still some alarming signs that need work... Defensively still crap, can't rely on hitting that many points or shooting at that % to win them games... Pineau and Singh getting considerably more minutes than Garlepp, even though he DID hit the court in junk time... Hammer said that it would have been less insulting to not get played at all instead of getting development player blowout minutes...

The cheer Tommy got should be evidence to the Kings decision makers, both on court and off, that this situation isn't going unnoticed and needs to get cleared up... Whatever the story is, that they are pressuring him to leave, or just told him that he wouldn't get any minutes and hoped that he would leave, are nearly as bad as each other... It's not how you run a business, let alone a team that needs to be strong and rely on each other... And people have been wondering why there seems to be no chemistry on court tis season?

Anon made a great point... if this was always going to be the case that he wouldn't get minutes, even behind inexperienced, under qualified players, especially in losses where he could have maybe helped, then he should have been cut and paid out at the end of last season... It's not a coincidence that when someone is let go in a normal workplace, they are more often than not just allowed to leave with their notice period and not kept around... It breeds discontent and resentment and that seeps into the rest of the workplace... Just another poor decision in what is getting to be a significant list from the Kings decision makers...

I don't have any juicy info on what the real issue behind this Garlepp thing is. I can only speculate that the only benefit the Kings can get by keeping him is to prevent him from getting picked up by another team for the minimum salary and as absolutely last resort backup.

The only way they will trade those 'benefits' would be to not pay him.

The longer it goes on, the worse it looks and the worse it will look when they actually have to do something, as if and when Lisch comes back, do they then get an import big to make up for the losses not having one will incur?

That they would be ok with the negative of treating an ex-captain like this, even the perceived one, let alone ACTUALLY doing it, speaks volumes for who is in charge...
