Taipans name Chris Patton as injury replacement

Nate Jawai's injury replacement is Chris Patton, as everyone assumed.

Yet another underwhelming replacement.

Why is he underwhelming?

@Matt, he's not a particularly agile, nor skilled big man. I don't think Taipans fans should/will have very high expectations. If he can rebound and defend, any baskets he makes will be a bonus.

How many Aussie big men do people think are available seriously.

Not much will be expected of Patton.
Egwu and Loughton will play bulk of centre minutes.

Kendle at Sydney now that is an underwhelming signing... Had they waited a week or two longer they could have signed an NBA fringe level player

"Why is he underwhelming?" You clearly haven't followed his NBL "career"

big unit avg player who thinks more highly of his own abilities than his output thus far has justified.

Be interested if he can add some value to cairns

Why not just upgrade Tevin Jackson to the main squad as the replacement?

"big unit avg player who thinks more highly of his own abilities than his output thus far has justified."

Is this part of the reason he left United - didn't think he was getting the minutes he thought he should have?

If he was any good he would be already playing NBL.

Yeah, they should have gotten someone who was already in the league to be their injury replacement hey?

The reason the Taipans don't want to elevate Tevin Jackson to the main roster is that they are looking for a big body (4 or 5) to replace Nate, not a swing man who can pinch hit at 4, like Tevin. Tevin has a bright basketball future; he needs to work on his jump shot and free throw shooting a lot before he will be a serious contender for a full roster spot.

They may also be keeping in mind his eligibility as a DP (for next year, even?) - I'm not sure of the rules about DP eligibility, or how they'd relate to Tevin's age and experience.

He's not NBL material that's why he isn't playing currently because everyone have evaluated his previous form. What has changed to make them think he is? Like so many other big bodies so much potential so little skill

I doubt anything has changed to make the Taipans think Patton is NBL ready. He's just the best big body we can afford, who's still playing ball.

The argument that he's not currently in the league therefore not a worthy replacement is absurd as anyone available will be in exactly the same position.

Add to that, due to so few spots in the NBL these days, there are always going to be guys out of the league, not necessarily through lack of talent alone but also being overlooked for a youunger player/better fit or whatever.

Patton no better or worse than some of the 5 man imports last season or this season, squeezed out by lack of playing spots and three imports, I reckon he'll be a good fit in Cairns.
