Tigers Game Night - For Comparison
Ok all strap in and get ready for a long one - I'm going to run you through last night's Tigers game night for you all to compare to the Sixers first game.
Firstly seems all first games didnt go smoothly around the league. Melbournians are renowned for rocking up to any sporting event 5 - 10 minutes before the start and wondering why their are massive queues in carparks and to get into stadiums (Telstra Dome still struggles the most with this). Well the Tigers (unknowingly) got around this problem quite well - advertise the game for a 7:40 tip off, but due to Fox broadcasting the game actually tipped off at 8:10 (they had a gaze special on fox). I must admit game tickets had 8:00 tip off on them. Anyway not a huge issue as it meant nearly everyone was seated by 7:40 and ready to go.
Outside the stadium, they had a hoop set up with a couple of tigers volunteers shooting around with the kids, adults whoever wanted to shoot - fair few people threw a shot up on their way in.
Security was tight as they were in training for commenwealth games so things moved along well there - had a couple of guys playing some tunes outside the stadium which was good.
Pre-game hmm umm? yeah? Cheerleaders came out (with one man dancer) for one routine and went back in again, probably to please the restless crowd. Tigers new look mascot came out and interacted with the crowd - btw this guy's got some dance moves.
Nearing 8:00 cheer leaders come back out this time with 3 man dancers. Now while I'm not all for the man dancers these guys were more likely Gymnast. The Tigers cheerleaders/crew are heading down the path of the American cheerleaders (which is great) about 8 or 9 of their routines throughout the night involved the guys throwing girls into the air, building pyramids etc etc - it's good entertainment every single time.
Ok now for player introductions - opposition announced some boo's etc. Tigers announced cheering clapping etc. Players start warmup - wait stop got to do the anthem (for some reason the Tigers only did the anthem last season when it was a Fox game or finals game weird?).
Players finish quick warmup and time for tip off.
Qtr time break competition for kids (medibank private sponsor) grab a doc's coat, stethascope, a ball and first to get the basket wins (not bad for qtr time - good for the kids).
Half time - half court shoot out (sponsor Weribee mitsubishi) - Shot from FT for 2 tickets in the Gaze lounge including food and drinks for a game - 3pt a Mitsubishi Rally jacket - Half Court the oppurtunity to come back at the last home game of the season to have another shot from half court to win the car.
After that was kids playing bbball.
3qtr time (from memory) was just cheerleaders routine.
1st timeout of 4th qtr was raffle draw - although its a raffle with a twist. instead of raffle tickets you get for $1 a sign with Go Tigers on one side and Defense on the other sponsored by Natures Own (different sponsor every week) each card has a number on it, your number drawn you get $500 cash (jackpotting each week).
Well thats about it - if anyone else was there and I missed something add it.
Oh and as has been mentioned before the scoreboard shows players name, number, dots for fouls - team score, fouls and qtr thats it. So the Sixers scoreboard not working as opposed to this one is really not that much different.
So in comparison to blackout, army band, Navy Seal dancers, and big screen even though it all didnt run smoothly it still sounds like a pretty good night.
