Townsville win WNBL championship, Batkovic MVP

BATKOVIC MASTERCLASS CLINCHES TOWNSVILLE'S THIRD TITLE IN FOUR YEARS

The JCU Townsville Fire have earned their third Championship in four years following a 70-57 Game 3 victory over the Deakin Melbourne Boomers in the 2017/18 Grand Final series.

As was the case throughout the campaign, the Fire were led by Suzy Batkovic, who capped one of the greatest individual WNBL seasons of all time with a game-winning performance.

Having already claimed the season MVP, Batkovic was not going to be denied the 2017/18 Championship as she tallied a double-double before half-time while going on to record 28 points on 11-23 shooting, 13 rebounds and three assists.

That performance guided Townsville to the trophy and their captain then won a richly deserved Rachael Sporn Grand Final MVP award for her efforts through all three games.
Full story

Amazing that the Fire built a dynasty out of Townsville while the Crocs fizzled out. How much of that comes down to the recruitment of Batkovic?

Also, you can probably measure the dominance of Batkovic (presence, ability, etc) by what she's still achieving as a 37 year old when many peers have retired or diminished.

She is amazing - not always the easiest person to get along with because she is so driven, motivated and holding people accountable. BUT, she gets results!

Very happy for the Fire and for Townsville. They have built themselves a dynasty after being rescued by a group of people led by Shane Froling. They were run by Townsville Basketball in the early days at it was on the brink of handing the license back in. Shane lobbied the council and local businesses to get behind women's sport in the city.

There were many focussed and dedicated people on to
Rescue the Fire ... naming one person seems pretty disrespectful
To the all of the many others that helped make this happen.

"after being rescued by a group of people led by Shane Froling"... If you feel offended that is not my problem.

Feel free to list every person involved as I dont have time
