Wildcats v Breakers

Top 4 battle tonight in the Jungle.
Perth will be desperate to get back on track after 3 straight losses at home and last weekends double loss to Sydney.

I'm backing Perth.
Is anyone else?

NZ got lot to play for here, could really dent the cats for all other teams but at home can't see cats losing in a tight affair. Hopefully the refs let them play a bit and ref both sides evenly, not normal procedure though I know.

In saying that, it'll be interesting to see how he reacts, because I dare say he got a kick up the ass for his recent performances. Does he sook or man up?

For me Tokoto is more the barometer for the Cats tonight. Needs to pull his finger out and return to MVP mode.

Yes agreed. Tokoto has been too busy showboating and not hitting the boards and playing aggressively enough. Cotton i think is more of a victim of poor team offense and not getting him the ball in the right spots and setting some decent screens.

For someone as talented as Abercrombie, he has too many off these nights like tonight. 0-4 through 3 quarters and just about invisible.

Breakers HAVE GOT TO blow up the Pledger/Abercrombie/Vukona/Penny core if they ever want to be a serious contender in this league again.

You rotation at centre is clueless. What was your plan when you bought Christmas in.

Penney and I'll shooting 20 and 16%. Abercrombie not firing. What is your plan henare?

Perth genuinely good tonight. Finally got some bench production.
Waxy came back on but never looked comfortable. Was at the game so didn't have the luxury of stats but it seemed crazy Henare didn’t play Pledger more, Cooke and Brandt had no answer for him but had it over Loe and Christmas.

I didn't think it was a super-convincing performance to be honest - NZ were pretty average - but I'm not complaining either. Steps back in the right direction for the Cats.
Now I at least feel like Friday night vs Adelaide could be a good game.

Henare can't coach bigs

Clueless as to what a good big does and doesn’t do

I was excited when Christmas came in as I thought either he or loe would play some 4. But he is just another piece at 5 which has never been a problem for us and as
Henare goes small whenever the opposition does - we hardly had to worry about that.

The issue we have is elsewhere
Ili - loss of form
Sosa - doesn’t drive
Abercrombie - inconsistent and never been one to dominate
Penney - old
Vukona - turnovers

All of the above means we can’t score. It’s awful to watch.

Perhaps a smarter third import would have been a small forward like conger, Felix, Buford. Abercrombie can play 4 as could the import when going small. Penney and vukona minutes could Reduce. Would have given another creator off of the dribble something both ili and Sosa are struggling with.

I've never really tried to watch a Cats-Breakers game from a NZ perspective to figure out the downside of Pledger being on the court, so can someone else explain why they don't use him more? Because from a Cats POV it seems like he gets plenty of easy scores at one end, and Brandt struggles to score on him at the other.

I think over the last month we have now slid out of the top tier. We look like a team fighting for 4th and scaling into the playoffs. Sosa and Newbill both showed their ego problems that I have only seen glimpses till now. They each tried to do it all on their own. Sosa has always had that trait but now he seems to be getting worse.
TO or poor shot resulted and we are looking around for where the next basket is going to come from.
Abercrombie is taking time from Penney who is not lighting it up anyway but seems to be next best option.
Pledge was fantastic. He was on a roll but rotated out and could not get going again.
Ili's game has gone walkabout and he is not having the same impact as earlier in the season.
Christmas is going to have foul problems. He looks OK, nice rebounder but not a go to on the block.
Gonna have to scrap just to make playoff now.
