Big V tournament cancelled

Few teams left looking for pre season games now with this getting called off.

Not surprising really. Fees were ridiculously high just for 3 games, and few few teams entered, the writing was on the wall.

Shame though, as this tournament has been of great value to many teams over past years.

This is why teams organise their own, cheaper and usually more organised to suit the needs of their own team.

Every AGM, Teams say move the tournament and nothing happens. This is the result of not working with the teams.

Tournament used to have heaps of teams enter when it was at frankston and had proper timing rules.
Once it went to MSAC then dandenong it fell apart. Why would a team with 12 players want to play in games that last less than an hour?

Frankston were golden era for this tournament, full stadium Century Nightclub busier than court one!

Teams staying down for the weekend, now with more options available along with the downgrade of the need for the tournament it seems IF this is correct a death knock.

Still nothing on BigV Site .... waiting to see if the source is true.

Second time frankston got tournament absolutely screwed it. Short games, finals scores with both teams in 20's/30's. terrible fixturing resulting in games being called off as not enough travel time was taken into consideration between venues etc.

The tourney is dead...better to let a few country associations run some smaller tourney's or round robin's.

^^^ Would definitely be ideal...Most teams like going away from the Melbourne anyways...

Geelong, Warrnambool, Shepparton, Werribee viable options???

Might also be worth pushing the season back a week or 2 so they can keep it long weekend...Thoughts on this???

Would like to see some associations run some senior tournaments, I know coaches have liked to bench mark these games against over Big V teams - maybe a SCM/SCW at Shepparton, Div 1 at Ballarat and Div 2 Squads at Geelong ... a thought???

I wonder when they will announce this, only be fair to give teams a chance to scramble and find games

Shepparton ran a round robin scenario last year with a few teams and are doing something along those lines again this year.

Ballarat should just become the proper Big V tournament. It's very well run and a great weekend.

I think this needs to be looked at in more detail - a top state league can't convince its OWN clubs to attend its tournament .... that is a real concern that those running the house don't know where the teacups are?
