BSA Premier League coaching jobs and who is safe!

Its been an up and down season for SA's top senior competition. What coaches are safe or locked away for 2019? Have some coaches just coached above their "cattle" or coached themselves out of a job?

Men's
Safe
Southern, West, Norwood, North and Sturt
75%
Forestville - Andy is great and has been for a long time but maybe it’s time for a change down at Wayville
Woodville – Underperformed or just a bad list? Whitmore is one that can get the best from any team on any given night but the Warriors are super skinny in the talent pool.
50%
Centrals – This will be up to Coach Simpson as he currently wears a lot of hats for the Lions. Improved program and a great feel again in the North so hopefully he stays put
History
South, Eastern – To quote the Madden brothers "we are done"
COY – Nyberg as this is the year of the Tiger.

Women’s
Safe
Sturt, North, Norwood and West
75%
Eastern – Jones has been at it a long time and wants to win. Needs better talent to get over the hurdle but could be COY if he pulls this off.
Forestville – Young group but the experienced players or those with WNBL resumes should be more dominant. Monica needs some steady veterans that can put points on the board and show leadership to this talented group of “baby ballers”
50%
Southern – The reigning champions need to pull something out down the stretch for Coach York. Good team depth and some studs that have been underwhelming, its crunch time for the Tigers.
Woodville – Rebuilding???
Centrals – Good start early and plenty of promise but the Lions have dropped off in a big way. Not much support from their U18’s for 2019 with most of them jumping ship six months ago.
History
South – Chas is a quality coach but what is up at Panther land!
COY – BJ finally has the Rockets primed for a title

Agree about Simons, been there forever but time to make a change. Only relying on bringing in sixers for them to even compete. Without them they're down with the other bottom dwellers. Only thing is what candidates are out there?

Richard Dickel to take over Souths men and women next year!

843, recruiting good players makes him a bad coach? By that logic Casella was a CotY candidate until they sacked Garth.

It's a competition: if your club had the cash and culture to attract 36ers' then they would. Evidently they don't.

Forestville, and Andy, developed two players that are now Sixers.

That said, Bello is gone.

Culture is a big thing when recruiting any player. Forestville played Eastern on Saturday night in Mt Barker and won by 50 so what club would you pick as a potential recruit? Well done to Andy and what he stands for.

I'd assuming bringing four 6ers together is some decent value

Wasn't so much as Andy being master recruiter, the sixers boys wanted to play together in off-season and forestville was obvious choice with Doyle already there, cashed up and central location.

What centrals junior coach do you speak of, not a previous president at another club???

899, I belive you're correct that the 36er guys wanted to play together. However, Doyle was offered more money to play elsewhere AFAIK. Majok was also a possibility to stay, but Mt Gambier offered several times more than Forestville could afford to - then he returned to prep for his workouts in the US. That speaks to Majok's and Doyle's loyalty, as well as Forestville's culture that these guys came on board - otherwise Forestville would have no 36ers.

I don't get it though: what's the difference between signing these guys and North outbidding other clubs for Starling, Southern paying their big 4, Norwood making Stanbridge probably the highest-paid th option in the comp, or West bringing in a high-level big and an elite former-QBL import to accompany really solid locals?

Souths entire ladies team, as well as the coaching staff, should be demoted to a social league somewhere. Mavs men too

Jason Warhurst does a fantastic job at Mavs with the horses he has available. I'm from another club but pound for pound he is definitely in the top 3 coaches for the league.

Not involved with Eastern or a member of the Warhurst family. But his record in indicative of the talent he possesses. If he was coaching Southerns talent he would be probably in the running for COTY. And if Nyberg was coaching Eastern and didn't have the big budget he would be at the bottom of the heap as well.

# Swiss01 I think the issue with Eastern extends further than just the Men's Head Coach, the men’s team has been a perennial 9th or 10th team for a good decade and a wasteland for players that have left other clubs due to either attitude problems or inability to make the senior team.
Unfortunately this all creates a "negative culture" and saps the energy out of everyone involved. A positive culture doesn’t just happen on its own it needs to be nurtured right from the U/10 D2 team through to Premier League, clubs that have positive cultures add energy to everyone’s tank and inevitably creates success both on and off the court.
Southern are a great example of a club working together and it shows from the committee who create sponsorship dollars that extends to the roster they put on the floor. The game day presentation is second to none in this competition with entertainment and a professional product for families in a semi-professional league. The senior men’s team have set non-negotiable rules for what it takes to build a winning and positive club culture.
Southern as a club were smart and looked outside of their own corridors and went for a Men’s Coach/Director of coaching who was already at a club with great culture and tradition, he intern installed this model with his new club and the impact has been immediate. The Sturt senior teams have always had exceptional linkage from their junior program and if you play for the Sabres as a ten year old and work hard there is a more than a good chance you will represent the club at senior level one day.
Whilst I don’t disagree that the Mavericks men’s head coach is a knowledgeable or likeable individual that works hard at what he does, it doesn’t take away the fact that the culture is a losing one and has been for quite some time.

Going by a coaches record is always fraught with danger. Coaches who overachieve with the talent they have are the real 'coaches'. Anybody can 'coach' a stacked team, it's the ones who take on the hard gigs knowing full well they don't have the cattle to win it, that deserve the recognition. JW falls in to this category most definitely.

You gotta be kidding....Sturt at a senior level are one of the most underachieving senior clubs ever, when considering how dominant their juniors are. Many seniors who do play are more out of longevity (i.e if you stick around long enough you'll get a game) than any 'linkage' between juniors and seniors. Fact is the Sturt committee give scant regard to the seniors and this is reflected by their game day product, which could quite possibly be the worst atmosphere in the league.

963, I hardly think buying players in, spending club funds in an area that does little to develop the sport, having a revolving door around people that come in take the money and move on indicates a "culture" other clubs like the one you mention the coach came from would be aspiring to.

Buying players in? 2 imports? I suspect only 2 maybe 3 of the Australians at that club get paid. Similar to most other clubs in the league I would say.

Best club culture from the three clubs mentioned in the above posts
Eastern
Southern
Sturt

I would say two out of three are reasonable and the third a long way off and in fact worst in the district competition.

Yep. And the unpaid Australians that were juniors there falling well short of their potential, not been able to move beyond successfully.

A combination of buying players and good players not been developed to potential is not an indicator of culture.

Not good for the game. Not sustainable.

Surprising how club culture improved with Starling and Creek coming in. Those 2 alone would lift anyone's, they go to Eastern and suddenly they're contending. Id say it had more to do with them than anyone else.

Starling and Creek coming to Mavs would never happen in a million years more from the fact they would never go there! Mavs current two imports are decent or as good as any import duo's in the comp so why are they still getting embarrassed each week? Six times this season opposition have posted 100+ points against them with Forestville pulling their pants down by 48pts scoring a total of 125.
Dont know who they play this week but its a matter of top that from every other club.

Not too long ago Southern weren't travelling too good themselves. Throw enough money at people and they will go anywhere. Drmic was all set to go to Norwood until Southern threw 30K at him. Adam Gibson suited up for Mavs a few years back. Rios has been good, but Wise is terrible. He's a jump shooting big man who cant rebound or play defence, that's why teams score so much.

At least when Southern bought those guys in they not only had success but seem to have been able to carry it over & sustain it. They have no 6ers this year and are doing ok.

Eastern bringing in Gibbo or North bringing in Starling haven't helped their clubs at all.

End of the day you are comparing apples with oranges (Southern-Eastern). You can argue that Southern have $$ for a better roster etc etc but that comes from a committee structure that is very professional in its approach to getting sponsors on board and delivering a class product.
Eastern's game night product isn't great, dont know anything about their committee or coaching director but the clubs ongoing reputation in certain areas are not fantastic.
If any club works hard and gets quality people for both on and off court roles then they could be at the top of the tree rather than at the base every year.
