BASA Expansion ?

Should new clubs be allowed to play in the SA district competition and have the same benefits as the other 10 clubs?

If the Western Magic Basketball Club or any other club (Torrens Valley) would like to become a Member club in SA then they should have to gain entry from a vote of acceptance the executive committee that runs BASA (the current 10 member club presidents). This will allowed them the same rights and privileges as the other member clubs. Any new club should be forced to follow theses guidelines before they can enter a BASA run competition.

They should have to buy an existing licence or apply to BASA to become an expansion club and pay market value or what the going rate is.

I would value the Adelaide 36ers at approximately 3.5 Million dollars and the 10-member club are equal owners of that organization

10% of $3,500,000 would be $350 000 plus sign a contract that they agree to the terms and conditions of the BASA loan and the repayment as a equity owner of the Basketball association of South Australia.

With out a licence I don't think any other club should be allowed to enter any side (Div 1 or Div 6 boys or girls) and BASA has to try and make district basketball in South Australia exclusive again.

Lose to one of these smaller Club this week did we?

Don't we, ie the basketball community, want more people playing this sport. In other words making it inclusive rather than exclusive.

You only seem to be talking about juniors. What about the non-member sides in the Senior comp? Whatever changes you are proposing must be across the board.

But, as said before...never gonna happen.

Thomo,

Yes a new licence is worth $1M, but comes without the dome debt.

The Victorian and Hunter licenses went for $350k each.

The 36ers would be lucky to get 500k as what you are buying is a money pit.

There is only 9 member clubs! Not 10 as Southern Sun and NCT merged. Thats why in ABL there are the 9 memeber clubs plus eastern.

What part of the debt don't people understand? BASA are the ones with the debt not the Adelaide 36ers. If you say it's the same thing, its not.

The SANFL own AAMI stadium and they hold the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide Power Licence. The Basketball Association of South Australia owns the Adelaide 36ers and BASA have the ownership of the DHD (Powerhouse) hence they are the ones with the debt not the 36ers.

If the 2 entities were to separate then and you looked at the profit and loss margins of both organizations you would find that the Adelaide 36ers are keeping the BASA ship from sinking. That's why they would never sell.

$500,000 what a joke, if you seriously though for 1 second that the Adelaide 36ers would be worth that amount, then seriously you have no idea. $3,000,000 would be a minimum asking price for the 36ers.

BASA are the ones that set the season ticket and match day prices, its so they can maximise the potential income and profit margins from fans and help balance the books.

The 36ERs are more tied to the debt than you seem to think.

don't forget that the sixers incurred some very heavy fines for salary cap breaches

brehney and smyth are two of the most highly paid coaches in the league i've heard it mentioned more than once by people who should know that brehney gets more than some head coaches in other franchises.

58709, the government can veto any sale voted for by the presidents. for that reason, the 36ers are tied to the debt.

Perhaps Breheny gets paid more than other head coaches because as an assistant he has been more succesful than those coaches!

If the club is happy to be paying Smyth & Breheny what they are, who are we to complain?

I could imagine the outcry if the 36ers management chose not to pay them what they were asking and they went elsewhere.
