Entertainment Centre

Went to the Entertainment Centre on Sunday, and have also been there for corporate events...and was thinking

If the sports sells the 36ers to a private owner, do we think that this Centre would be a good venue for basketball - e.g. for the game, its ambience, value for sponsors, feel for fans, for players etc.?

What other venues could be used for the 36ers? Could we use the Convention Centre?

In posing these questions, I recognise much of the views would be dependent upon the or any commercial deal struck by any 'new owner' of the team...

The AEC would be okay for bball, but most of the seat are too far away from the action compared to the dome.
If they increased the amount of seats in the lower section it would be much better. You would need a really good crowd to generate atmosphere because the place is so big!
How about the 36ers use ETSA park? only a capacity of 3,000.

Yes and now they are stuck with it!!! Reverse the roles maybe we should look at selling the DOME to netball SA and buying ETSA park off of them!!! (they might fill the dome)
They way basketball is headed with the terrible promotion of our game we would probably be better off using that facility and saving some dollars!!!
The way promotion is at the moment i think in a few years we will struggle to fill ETSA park let along the DOME!!!

The 'Stupid thing' was not paying the debt of in the boom of the early to mid 1990s or paying a large chuck of it off.

BASA allowed stupid clubs like Centrals and Adelaide Southern and many others to siphon money out of the coffers and waste it instead of banking it and paying off the most important asset the club has.

BASA like 99% of the NBL believed that the NBL boom would last forever and the rain would keep on pouring, alas the rain dried up and dark time have hit the basketball association.

Incompetence is the reason the NBL and the 36er have poor attendance, building the powerhouse was one of the smartest moves made. Selling the powerhouse and playing at the AEC would be stupid, as it would give away a major SCA (sustainable competitive advantage) in negotiation a hire price.

The AEC and ACC would ask something like $25,000 $50,000 a night. It a stupid idea to sell the powerhouse and an even bigger one to suggest it was a waste of time to build it.

Plus at the AEC you would need tp bring a floor in every night and that alone would be cost prohibitive!

simon k, wasn't the debt as a result of mis calculations of INcome tax payable to the ATO over the last 5-7 years?

Even if it was a result of the amount of income tax payable(I don't know if that the case or not) then it still come back to the incompetence of BASA not the powerhouse being built or not.

The debt surely relates to building the Dome?

Any alleged 'miscalculations' on income tax [payroll tax?] would probably explain why there are so many issues repaying it?

Do the 36ers currently pay rent for the Dome?

What income do the 36ers receive from playing at the Dome - and why would this be more or less if they played games elsewhere?

If the sport had not built the Dome would it have made as much money - if they had simply rented another venue surely they would not have received the 'same income' levels?

Does not the SANFL and Football Park set a reasonable example - own the venue and keep the money?

The entertainment centre is a cold, horrible cement filled building. Great for concerts, would be horrible for a bqasketball game, plus with the seating config, would be missing atmosphere (those who went to the 97 Championship win at Rod Laver Arena would remember the total lack of atmosphere till the 6er fans created some!!)

The Convention Centre has nice comfy chairs, and would work as a basketball venue (I have long said that if a second team ever eventuated here, the Convention Centre would be an ideal venue).

However, when you consider the Dome was purpose built, and is idealy set up for basketball (and is still regarded as one of the better facility wise venues in the league) - well why change?

wasn't the dome built before the AEC?
So wouldn't it have been just as good to have not built the AEC and kept the live performances at the dome. Thus helping raise revenue to pay off the debt.

Funny thing is that the then State Government needed BASA to build the Dome because of their desire to host the Commonwealth Games. SA needed another indoor facility.

Unfortunately the then BASA/36ers management were blinded by the idea of a larger better facility and didn't understand the long term damage a loan would do to the sport.

If the then management had done a better deal then we wouldn't have the problems we are now.

Again every other major and semi major sport has been GIVEN money from the State Government to build facilities yet the management at BASA are unable to get anything more then a stay on their loan. Just doesn't add up to me ...

YOU ARE ALL NOT THINKING LOGICALLY!

Etsa Parks, too small! 36ers get 5,500 people per game and its not a lie, they stated on www.adelaide36ers.com, why would they lie. It would make the sixers poor, they would get less.

The Sixers are probably the richest club, its BASA and its leagues thats the problem, being down 10m + 200 grand for Wayville.

The Dome is perfect, don't be stupid.

EC would be good, however think...

No noise! No wood to bang on the ground. Adelaide is known for educated fans and very lound fans. Lets keep it that way. Make it bad for people to play against the mighty, the best team in history the ADELAIDE PUREMILK 36ERS

LETS KEEP IT THAT WAY AND STOP COMPLAINING!!!!!!!!!!
