Andrei Kirilenko - Best two-way player in the NBA?

Today vs. LA Lakers, Andrei Kirilenko put up these numbers
14 points (5/7 FG)
8 rebounds (3 off, 5 def)
9 assists
6 steals
7 blocks
in 41:45 minutes

Does anyone else think he is the best two-way player (as in contributes as much on defense as on offense) in the NBA today?

Finally, someone gets the elusive five fives! (five or more in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks). That's also a lot of TSNP/HSA! 32.5 from the blocks and steals alone!

i like the way he plays the game as he sees it. he's not out to score thirty or grab 20 boards he just does everything he can on every play and thats why he fills the sheet better than any other player in the league.

I reckon his a great player

His only problem is that he is injury prone

He got the 5 5s last year aswell at some stage isaac. Shawn Marion is better than ak on offense, but nobody beats his overall numbers.

AK does well in a team that is struggling, his stats can be comparable to the Matrix's but the Matrix just got voted West Conference player of the week. Marion is just that damn good on offense and defense lol.

AK47 and the magical 5x5:

#1 - 3/12/2003 vs. Houston
19 points
5 rebounds
7 assists
8 steals
5 blocks

#2 - 10/12/2003 vs. New York
10 points
12 rebounds
6 assists
6 steals
5 blocks

#3 - 3/1/2006 vs. Los Angeles Lakers
14 points
8 rebounds
9 assists
6 steals
7 blocks

He has come close a number of other times as well.

And I wouldn't really call the current 5-game winning streak and a 16-16 record for the Jazz struggling too much! They're doing alright considering the injuries (AK's sprained ankle and back spasms, Carlos Boozer's hamstring, etc) they've had.

The Jazz aren't strugglers, AK47 is the one of the most all-rounded players in the NBA, and as stated probably only the Matrix compares.

Memo Okur is most definately a Most Improved candidate and if they can get Boozer back (without breaking a heartledge) and Harpring and Williams continue to improve then the Jazz could do some serious damage.

Not to mention a coach like Sloan will always win the occasional game just with his smarts.

That's why it's a shame that players like Marion and Kirilenko don't get enough recognition for their efforts on-court. Iverson great as he is, got shut down by the Suns. 7-23, don't think he'll have that too many times but still, takes a lot to shut him down.

As I said, Marion and Kirilenko deserve more credit than they deserve. They really are top class players.

Hey 31......Matrix is by far better at the offensive end of the court in terms of scoring points, but overall.....he is no match for Kirilenko

When has Marion had 5+ blocks in a game???

Fez, I don't doubt Kirilenko is a very good player.

Fez, ummm, Marion has actually gone one better four times including once already this year, he achieved 6 blocks versus the Grizzlies.

Please Fez, have a look at the stats below lol:

2005/06 Highs: Blocks 6 @ Memphis 12/17/05

Career: 6 4 Times

Career and 2005/06: Offensive Rebounds 9 vs. Toronto 11/22/05 9 vs. Toronto 11/22/05

2005/06: Defensive Rebounds 16 2 Times

Career: 16 5 Times

2005/06: Steals 4 2 Times

Career: 7 2 Times

2005/06 Assists 7 vs. Dallas 11/01/05

Career: 8 2 Times

AK is a fantastic player no doubt. The Matrix, however, is a level above.

Kirilenko is super athletic (he won a Euroleague slam dunk contest), but Marion is even more athletic it seems. What I mean to say is I get the impression when I watch that Marion get most (not all) of his boards, blocks and steals because of his athleticism. Kirilenko actually has better defensive skills to go with good atleticism. Plus, Kirilenko is a much better passer and scores less because he takes less shots and involves his teammates. Granted, Marion's role is as more of a finisher than playmaker, but it'd be good to see him make a few more assists from time to time.

I'd rather build a team around Kirilenko than the Matrix, both awesome but Kirilenko just does more.

Yes Marion is more of a finisher than a playmaker, won't dispute that. Marion is a better rebounder and a far better scorer, the stats surrounding steals and blocks are pretty equal, as for assists?

Well yes, Kirilenko is more of a playmaker than Marion, but the rebounding of Marion's cancels out the playmaking ability of Kirilenko. Marion's rebounding is up there with some of the biggest players in the game for a 6'7 guy, amazing.

Look forward to the next Suns v Jazz game.

Thanks anyway 3, but those stats were easy to read the first time. I don't doubt AK's ability as a player, to be an all-round player is an exceptional talent, on offense and defense.

Both the Jazz and Suns are fighting injuries to key players and both have done well to do get where they are. Anyway, given AK's stats, he should easily play both power forward and small forward, something Marion has been doing for a while now lol. I would hope AK does play both positions anyway.

In any case, shouldn't Dwayne Wade be put into this equation as a high ranking two-way player?

Ron-Ron deserves a mention too. Many people are calling him the best two-way player, hence his high trade value at the minute (even though he had a brain transplant Dec 2004).
