WNBL Restricted Players

A couple of people have questioned which players are restricted for the purposes of the ABA competition. I was sent this and thought that some might find it useful.

Okay, I'm intrigued enough to ask : what do you mean?
I imagine Marino is lining up again for the Sabres. Isn't she a long-time Sturt junior/senior anyway?

If these boards are correct (a mighty if!!!) isn't both Beatty and Cooper playing for the Tiges?

No its true.

The Sabres have Alana Beard coming over to play, plus they have signed
Lauren Jackson.

Go sabres!

Yes, that is correct about Lauren Jackson. Turns out a reporter heard her say that she was playing "for her career" (at Sturt) and thought she'd said that she was playing "for her Korea" - hence the incorrect article on FoxSports earlier on. A few more signings and Pasadena will be the place to be.

Isaac I heard that Sturt had sacked Marino to make room for Sue Bird from Seattle as there guard to go with Jackson and did not pick Beard up? Any word from inside Sturt about this yet? What comp this will be this year. Bigger then Ben Hur!

I think that Sturt wqill be the only club playing all of their Juniors in their Womens ABA team this season!

Is this Sue Bird, Lauren Jackson, Alana Beard stuff true? They'll be playing for Sturt in the ABL? Surely not.

Sturt will be fielding a team that consists of only Sturt juniors. As a club we consider it detramental to future development of club players to recruit over the top of our current players and juniors who will play ABA in the future.

Thank you Darth for putting all the rumours to rest. May the force be with you.

Darth,
When you say it will only consist of Sturt juniors!
Do you mean the juniors that came to the club off their own back or are you also including All the juniors you have poached from other clubs over the years?

I guess that would be the players who left clubs "off their own backs" due to the fact that clubs like yours continually spend more money recruiting senior players than they are willig to spend on their juniors program.

If you actually read the by-laws you would see that "poaching" occurs when players move into the age groups of the club at which the State coach is coaching.

But don't let your ignorance get in the way of a good dig at a club that is working hard at eveloping kids.

And PS I am sure that last year and this year, the Sturt women will be playing with more people that have not moved clubs than yours be. So who's club does the most "poaching".

Dreaming also forgot:

Jane Summerton
Christina Kokkinakis
Anna Chapple

Not to mention Laura Summerton who would be playing if she was not in the WNBA. Or the likes of Kylie Newbold and others who have been recruited by other clubs.

ok for all u people.. jackson is playign three games for albury in the seabl league.. then from there she is focussing on opals for commonwealth.. and from theere i guess she needs to make a living for her self where the money is america and korea... as if big stars like AB and sue bird would come play for peanuts in a league that would not challenge them what so ever.. plus they would miss their own national league the WNBA fricken idiots GOSH!!!!!!! now that said you all have fun now...
