Hosted by Paul Bell and David Spear.

NBA Finals: Spoke about NBA, mavs are up 2-0, Belly mentioned that everyone last week thought the heat would win but thought the mavs were looking good!! Spoke about how mavs are holding shaq and think mavs are looking good especially if the mavs win 1 of the upcoming games in miami.

Favourite NBA moments: Asked Spear about his fav NBA moment, he thought moments of Bird, Dr J. his fav was 6ers v Celtics with guys like Dawkins, Parish, Dr. J, the whole series, especially game 7

NBL Hall of Fame Inductees: Talked about the new inductees of the nbl hall oif fame, davis, borner, kerle, loggins, spear thinks they are 4 tremendous additions to the hall and far more worthy than guys like carfino, and Michael johnson said carfino was a great player but not a hall of famer in his opinion, and thinks guys like Ken Richardson would be more worthy inductees, who didn't play aslong. And thinks guys like davis and loggins are a step above guys like carfino.

Ninnis talks about Boomers: Scott Ninnis calls, who is in Adelaide for the classics, ended up getting roped into assistant coach wit uncle don, (don shipway) under 14's south Adelaide team. Mentioned, a young ahmatt coming through who he considers a player of the future.

Classics: Spoke about the classics, spear mentioned he won it with a under 18's team, years back as a coach, with Chris Blakemore in his team. Mentioned that Andrew gaze, was coaching 18's div 6 Melbourne tigers team, as they needed a coach and was happy to help out!! (what a champ!!) Ninnis enjoyed seeing guys like, Shipway, Kubank, Mike McKay, Ceci Exum coaching teams, and seeing them give back to the sport.

Spoke about Ninnis attending boomers camps, saw a laid back scrimmage, with holmes, anderson, bruce, mackinnon, ryan, just to introduce them to the boomers system, dragons sending ninnis to a few boomers camps, to build positive relationships with the boomers program and the dragons, so they can be on the same page and help the players get through the system. Spoke about family feud with aaron Bruce, mentioning how short he is, ninnis, said he was as quick as anyone he has seen, and believes he is a walk up start to the world champs, due to his quickness, thinks his lack of size around 6 foot might not help him internationally or in any nba aspirations, but thinks he should be a walk up start for the next boomers team. Spoke about the dragons, they have begaun training in the weights and most of there players are playing aba around the country.
Mentioned the tahj-maher, being pictured in Saturdays paper!!

Jess Foley Interview: New lightning recruit, said she is excited to be moving to the lightning, she comes from victoria, woodunga, played at ais when she was 16, spent the last 4 years at duke university, came to Adelaide as she was excited about Chris Lucas's young, fast moving team. Said she isn't too worried about the ownership issues, as she believes sa has a good basketball following, and is just going to worry about what happens on the court. Loved her time at duke, they averaged 6500 fans to games. All games are separate to the mens program, and still draws big games, highlights, this years national champs at Celtics domes in boston, where they were sold out with about 23,000, lost in overtime, beat conneticut in a buzzer beater infront of a sell out 1600 crowd, spoke about wnba, drafted by Indiana, said she is leaving that til next year to help her recover from a stress fracture with the time off, thinks the lightning team is a great bunch of girls and has played with some of them at the ais, was a pure shooter in ths us, and wants to try and branch out with running the point, defense and rebounds. Spoke about the Lightning v fellas name, and she said you need to go with the sponsorship you can get,
Spear mentioned Chris Lucas was excited to have her, and they need to replace Tammy Willey and Laura Summerton.

Interview with Michelle Timms: Employed by the Dragons as a development officer and is having a great time!!! Has found it interesting as she says as a player you often take it all for granted, all the stuff it takes to run a team.

She is involved in sponsorship, admin and developing relationships between the dragons and the grass roots basketball community, has over 300000 kids playing basketball in victoria, she is trying to re connect with them all and try to get them into the dragons as fans. Once a week the dragons will be visiting and training and interacting with the local clubs such as dandenongs, etc. to re-connect with the grass roots fans.

Spke about how vital it is, and Spear and timms spoke about how its vitally important to be accessable to the public, but felt it fell down when the nbl, titans, magic, stopped doing these things, and also co-insiding with the loss of FTA tv, all discussed its vital to have the clubs and players involved to make sure basketball doesn't get swept up totally by the soccer wave, as the soccer roos will be heros for making the world cup!!

Timms went to the Phoenix Mercury and was honoured by them, at there 10 year anniversary, where she was the first player selected, she has been inducted into the womens ring of honour with Cherryl Miller (Reggies Sister) and a few others.

Thought having the opportunity to play in the wnba was special, especially in the early years when they would play at the same arena as the Suns, where it was a huge success getting 15000 ppl ata game, which is now dropped down to 5000, thinks the league is really well run, and believes it will be around for a long time, long enough for her 2 year old daughter to play in if she was able to.

Is still hoping to do the ABC commentary on the WNBL again, and it should fit into her dragons commitments. Hopes to get into coaching at some stage, originally put inot be an assistant coach at the dragons, feels she has some learning to do to become a head coach, and loves the idea to be a assistant coach of a mens team so she can do it as a full time job.

South Dragons: Bell and Spear said they think the dragons are doing the right thing by trying to take it back to the local basketball community in victoria, and Bell said he feels it's amazing the crowds they get for the womens teams in the us

Interview Mark Davis: Who is honoured and flattered to be inducted into the hall of fame, had a fantastic night, and enjoyed catching up with all the players. Such as Cal Bruton, Herb Machechin, Scott Fisher, Ray borner, loved telling stories and sharing memories with them all. They got some rings, similar to championship rings for being inducted to the hall of fame, Great Mates is going well, enjoys working with all the kids, davis isn't actually playing, but still trains, and does everything but play a match, but enjoys picking up a basketball with his youth program,

20th Anniversary of the 1986 Title: Spear spoke about the 20th year anniversary of the 1986 title, and they think something should be done for it, and think it would be great to have a get together, even if it is a informal get together, bell thinks its important to have something formal to honour the clubs first ever title. Davis said it sounds great, and enjoys catching up and sharing the memorys and times with his team mates, and they believe that's what it is all about.

Spear said, Davis was the heart and soul of the team for over a decade and dseserves to be honoured, and bell mentioned that he believes davis re-defined the position of power forward in the nbl.

NBL Hall of Fame: Spoke about the nbl hall of fame, the entire list of who is in it, mentioned the fact that james Crawford, isn't in it, and said that a number including maley and uhtoff will get there time in the hall of fame

Brian Kerle Interview: Believes he is now satisified with what he has achieved in basketball, and belives his induction has completed his journey, asked about the early days, kerle mentioned davis looked so fit and healthy he should be playing!!, said he thought some heratige was lost with the old albert park stadium has been pulled down, and the transition around the league and venues and around the country, asked who was the best player he coached was Rocky Smith, averaged 32ppg without the three point line, asked if Rocky should be in the hall of fame, kerle said no as he only played for 2 years, so didn't have the loyalty, Brisbane went to play in brazil to play in the club championships, and accepted a huge offer to play in brazil, so didn't have the longevity to make the hall of fame, said there are many great Australian players, gaze, borner, bradtke, moursou, smyth, heal, neilsen, etc. and doesn't like to rank them all as there are so many, and believes the Australians are right up there with any americans who have come, Kerle is currently working with the queensland gov, running clonicns and is coachinf some junior basketball, still goes to the bullets knows joey wright, and think s he is doing a great job, thinks the Singapore and new Zealand and 2 clubs in melb, is good move, would like to see Hobart back in, but believes they need to consolidate what thetve got, isn't overly convinced of playing in summer, would like to see the league pulled back to finish before Christmas, could help keep players here, Isnt sure about gold coast being in as there may not need to be 4 teams in qld, and thinks the league should just consolidate what it has, and also need more FTA tv, enjoyed the rilvarys, specially with Adelaide, and Adelaide and melb were the best educated crouds. Believes the sport has a good place in asutralia sport.

Spoke about Kerles teams starring guys, like sengsttock, radlif, sibley, cal bruton, and how the 1986 bullets beat the mighty 36ers side in game 2 of the finals, and how good kerles teams were back in the day.

AIS Coach Marty Clarke interview: going well, won 7 of last 8, the emphasis is on development not just winning, but thinks its important to learn how to learn how to win, and finds it exciting they havnt had the full team together yet, thinks joe ingles is starting to play well again, and Stephen weigh has been good all year, typical week of ais, training 5 times a week, 3 weights and shooting sessions, hectic schedule, and life style changes with leaving home, spoke about the recruiting process, and ais v college programs, thinks if you find the right college its good, but believes its benefitial to come to the ais first, for life style changes, leaving home, and thinks they will be more preparead, would prefer guys to stay in Australia, but for guys not ready or able to, thikns the right college is a good step, thinks newley is a good chance to get drafted, saw from the outset had nba athletic potential if he can put the right skill package together, thinks guys like ingles, weigh eho is going to college, jawai, Patrick mills could get to the nba/newley level, depending on what teams are looking for and what exposure they get.

Very good show, really enjoyed it look forward to next weeks!!!

As stated last week, you are the MAN!
Fantastic write-up and very informative even though I listened to the show anyway, great job.
Once again, an all-star line up on the show; Davis, Timms, Brian Kerle, Marty Clarke etc, fantastic job by the Talking Hoops boys.

Great show as always, however,

Very poor effort on interviewing with Marty Clarke when a focus on SA talent could have been much better promoted, imo. No mention of all the SA girls at the AIS, there's more than one SA boy there at ais besides joe, nothing on OUR SA people in the Gems or Emus teams and squads. Only 2 sa people (Brad and Joe) mentioned out of what 8-10 or more at this elite level.

Yeah, NBA goals are great but what about forthcoming nationals and what will all the AIS coaches etc look for from players there and how and what do people need to do to get into the AIS and aspire to that level. Build some dreams for these new up and coming hopefuls at their next level too, not just nba or nbl.

Was interesting to note that Marty prefers people to go to AIS before USA Colleges. Well people are leaving the system here as places are restricted at AIS due to $$s and budgets. Colleges are their best option all things considered.

Amyways just thought a stronger focus for many SA people would have been great, given a lot of major events happening at National and International levels in the next 2 weeks to 3 months that will involve our SA players of both sexes!

I think the lack of junior talk might show Bell's interests (or lack of in that area). To compensate for that, it would be worth calling up to give him some questions or providing some chit chat, similar to what Liam does with the NBA component. It's the same on the forum with me - I don't follow junior basketball, so I rely on others creating threads and providing input.

Great work again Jonno!

I actually think they did ask Clarke about the AIS recruiting mainly from the U18 nationals and what they look for, not entirely sure though; and surely the SA girls at the AIS are not really much to do with him either since he is the MENS head coach. Apart from that some good points though.
