17 points, 4 in the 2nd half. That's pretty impressive defensively!

Congrats to Matt Coombe, who reffed the 1 pt Vic country Vs New Zealand boys game. Hopefully this puts him in a good position for finals later in the championship. GO Matty.

i dont think holding NT to 4 points in a half is an indication of good defence...these kids are great at kaning teams (sturt beating eastern by 120)but that doesnt equate to success in victoria.

anon (#86444) - wat the hell man..???

if u hold a team to 4 points for 1 half. how can u not play great defense. if u look at the stats. NT shot at 17%!!! meaning there was VERY GOOD defense. NT threw 50 odd turnovers!!! also indicating GREAT defense.

you clearly have no clue.

If anyone on the site knew anything about NT Basketball they might understand that it doesn't neccessarily take a decent defence to force up a 17% shooting percentage and 50 odd turnovers. Quite often you will find these kids don't train together and it takes them two or three games to get in sync with eachother, and given this is the only level they get an opportunity to play at outside the NT they haven't got the experience, but that should not exclude them from participating. After all, look at John Wernham of Forrestville who grew up in NT, and current SA Metro Bryce Whittaker from Forrestville. These kids would not have had any experience to slip into BASA Div 1 if they hadn't had the chance to play at Nationals with NT.
Where would you expect the NT to get represenation at a National Level? And what would you ask WA Country to do?

Sturt has more kids in u16 boys then the whole of the u16 boys Darwin Comp. NT are never going to be brilliant, but they deserve a go. Many kids could develop their game by moving down south, but at the same time this weakens the Darwin Competition even more.

Every now and then we produce a player of great calibre. This year, take a look at Jordan AhSam NT u16 Girls (first year).

There is some good talent in darwin, when they are young they are awesome but when they become a teenager they mostly quit ball and start hanging out with gangs, and because darwin and alice springs have such a small population it's hard to produce good potential players who want to stay commited

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
and also if darwin had some good players who wanted to stay commited then it doesn't really matter about the level of competition because it's all about how hard you work, the NT boys team is made up of 50%first years, look at players like jayden and corey if they were smart then when they get back to darwin thy would know what level they need to be at so if they worked really hard then they could become as good as the beter national players.

I see on BA website that SA Metro Men defeated NSW Country this morning. That takes them to 11 points, which means that only Vic Country can catch them for Top Spot in Pool A (If they defeat Qld South later today).
I assume that as SA defeated Vic earlier in the week, that SA Metro will finish top of their pool & should play either NSW Metro or Qld North (depending who wins today) & therefore can finish no lower than 4th.
Seems to be a pretty good result, considering some of the earlier comments.
In the Women if SA Metro can defeat NSW Country in their last Pool Match, they too will finish top of their Pool (2nd if they don't & then Play Vic Metro)(and also probably play NSW Metro in semi-final), meaning they too can finish no lower than 4th.
Good results for the Metro Teams, Country Women have ended with 3/3 result which will mean they just miss the major semi's and will play off for positions 5-8. It seems the Country Men have really struggled this year & haven't won a game as yet.

SA doing great. Hope SA metro girls can take on the 'big mama's'. If they get to within 20 points they will be doing great, anything more and they'll hit the brick wall country girls did by having to play Vic metro, NSW metro and ACT in their pool!!!!

no girls from broken hill in the 16 girls team... claudia paul was the only 16 girl from broken hill that went to albury but she got dropped from the nationals squad in the first cut. The nationals selecters haven't done a very good job this year. Both the 16 and 18 girls teams are going to struggle due to poor selections.
