The Advertiser: Daws likely to be out of work

There's a piece in The Advertiser today about Mike Daws' involvement with BASA and the 36ers in recent times, and the likelihood that he could find himself moving on sooner rather than later.

The very man behind basketball's imminent salvation is most likely to be the man out of work as a result of it.

In January when the State Government appointed interim controller Bruce Carter and asked former AFL chief executive Wayne Jackson to help revamp and revive the sport - casting aside the BASA board - it retained Daws to help in the restructure.
With the national teams and BASA to be separated, the head of Basketball SA is to be Bruce Spengler. A buyer of the 36ers may look to streamline the staff involved and may not retain Daws.
"It would be unbelievably disappointing to lose someone like Mike Daws from the sport," 36ers coach Phil Smyth said last night. "He's been tremendous - innovative and totally professional. He came into the middle of a bun-fight and he is as good as you can get."

Sadly, when all is said and done, it seems another sport will get him.
