Seattle Sonics... possibly Oklahoma Sonics

It looks like the Seattle Sonics and Storm have been bought by a syndicate that calls Oklahoma City home.

Early indications are that the new group will remain in Seattle, but final decisions haven't been made. Oklahoma is dying to get a franchise and isn't happy spliting the Hornet with New Orleans

Anaheim is trying for a franchise along with the possiblilty of a franchinse in Vegas so a move maybe on the cards for the Sonics.

Even after the rebuilding of the old Seattle Centre Coliseum (which is now the Key Arena), it is still one of the smaller capacity stadiums (17,072) in the NBA, has limited opportunity for corporate advertising, and is rarely used for concerts and other functions. It will be a shame that the Pacific North West will more than likely lose a sporting club that unlike a majority of other teams in the area, actually managed to consistently have winning seasons (or seasons with close to a .500 record). But that now leaves one question to be answered: If the Sonics go, do the Storm leave as well???

My guess is yes. The Storm and Sonics were bought as a package after Mr Starbucks refused to split the team.

Oh, final purchase price was $350 million.

Most WNBA teams need a NBA sponsor or ties to a NBA city, the only team that doesn't seems to be is Conneticut, but they are sponsored by a lush Casino.

Well my trip to Seattle to see my beloved Sonics this December could end up being a very well timed one! Could be their last season in Seattle..

What makes losing the Sonics this season even worse is that this season will be their 40th Anniversary one. Harold Schultz made the mistake of mixing coffee with sports... cause he made possibly has now made one of the biggest screw-ups in sporting history. First he drove Payton, then McMillan (2 of the most famous Sonics players in their history) out of Seattle, now the club itself, and Wally Walker can't be left out of the blame... he knew about everything, cause he's been involved at a very high level with the club since Shawn Kemp was with the team... and that's a long time... and George Karl couldn't stand a bar of him... that's partially why he left the Evergreen City for greener pastures... I think he knew in the end, he would stuff up everything.

I would be blaming Wally Walker more than Schultz. Schultz wasn't the owner when Wally started the Sonics downfall with the Jim McLvaine signing. The Payton trade was a good one though, even though it was not the popular choice. To get Allen, Murray, and Ridnour for an aging Payton who has been spiralling every since - is about the only decent thing Seattle management has done in the last 10 years.
