Junior Season - Length of

Has anyone heard if BASA will change the length of the Summer and Winter Seasons.
The Summer Season is too short and the Winter Season too long for Juniors. It could be a simple thing drop a couple of games of the Winter programe and place them into the Summer one......

I believe it's fine the way it is... in most divs in the summer season you play each team once and the winter season you play each team twice. That's most, not all.

we either accept it as it is or do it properly - any grade the teams should play each other twice in the minor round.

The problem is we have 1 grade with 14 teams and others with only 6.

BASA want ball all year round - for budgets and general expectation of basketball every week.

each grade should be scheduled to the amount of teams - causing a total non-uniformity in schedule.

Yet the junior season/s seem to rotate around what eveyone else bar the junior's needs - ie it fits around the ABL / NBL / WNBL / BASA budget.

The amount of junior games in winter is ok - iot is lengthened by all the school holidays and long weekends.

I feel it could be managed better - but needs to be micro managed - and I do not think anyone at any clubs or BASA is that interested.

It is just easier to put all the finals in together and roster minor round games together - until the competition is ready enmass to play finals.

really - if you have on 6 teams in your division - you should play each other twice - then finals after 11 odd weeks. but the division with 14 teams should go for 26 odd weeks - for a fair minor round.

if you get my drift!

the length of the season is not an issue but the timing is, cant BASA reorganise the seasons so that the seasons run within an actual year. coming back to 1 game and then hitting finals for the summer is stupid. after a 6 week break (or longer) kids have lost form, interest etc. am i the only one who doesnt get this timing?

the main season is the winter season and the summer is 'silly season' or a fill in season.

clubs have the opportunity to rectify this thru the junior committee so if you have concerns take it up with your club

all member clubs and affliates get to vote on what happens.

basa does not just pluck seasons out of the air and go with it the dates timing etc are given to the clubs for comment

why not do something constructive if you want change stop bitching about 'basa' and go back to your clubs

cause it might just be your club was one of the ones who voted or agreed to the same format you are bitching about

The reason we have the summer season starting in term 4 is that it is easier for clubs to organise their teams when families are actually here and not away on holidays. We already have a large number of teams who will be entering late or pulling out of the competition making disruptions over thefirst few weeks. Can you imagine if we were trying to organise while families were away on holidays. Also this gives players and teams who are going away to National Championsips an opportunity to prepare better.

Just an idea what about making the season longer eg. start in March and finish at the end of October. having ONE season and giving our juniors the opportunity to play and enjoy an other sport or rest or even have them work on their own game!!! Plus it would give the parents a break plus a rest on the pocket!!!!

Why can't the *shorter* season finish before Christmas, leaving the break for players to sort out what to do, get ready for the *bigger, more important* season?

The shorter season can't finish before christmas because there isn't enough weeks to play 11 games and finals. PLus you can't have a season where teams don't play each other because this season is used as the grading season for state champs, which in turn is the qualifying tournament for the classics and U/14 nationals.
