Forestville vs Dandenong

What do people think of the Forestville's chances against the Big V champion Dandenong tomorrow in their national quarter final clash in Newcastle?

Dandenong look to have some big boys playing on their team. Think they start 2 6"10 blokes. Think they have a yank or two as well, so Dix, Hoban and Dougie will certainly have their work cut out for them.

I think the eagles will need their perimeter game working for them and their running style up and going if they are a chance. I think when you think about it, Forestville's guards would be up their in the best in the nation at ABL level. Sullivan has showed that he is one of the best shooters going around, and did perfrom well back in the 2003 nationals, and is in good form. Sutton's work with he sixers should give him confidence going in to the nationals, and he showed saturday night that he can go up against the best in big games. Arnold should be strong and experienced enough to do well and of course Cambell has showed back in 2003 and last year with cairns that he can mix it with the best at national level...not sure how his ankle is but hopefully he can give them 10 points in 15 mins for . Gange is one bloke that could struggle. Not really that strong or quick as the best guards in the nation, but if he can hit his open ones and help keep the scoreboard ticking over then he would have done his job.

It will be interesting, but Dix, Hoban and Mac-T need to be monsters on the boards if they are to get up. I can potentially see the eagles losing simply due to giving up too many second shots to their opposition.

A team from the central mens conference hasn't gotten through to the semi finals since Sturt in 2002 when they squandred a good lead to go down to enventual champion Hobart in the semi. That team was probably better than this Forestville team as they had Bauer(at close to his best), Illman, Williams, Forman, Marston, Gower, Jamison? But hopefully the eagles can do it. Wish ya good luck boys!

Thoughts?

No chance, Dandenong simply too big, strong and good.
Brent Hobba (Dragons) is 6'9, Ash Cannon (Dragons dev. player) 6'6 and a very physical defender and great rebounder. Lester Strong is a 6'8 import with outstanding athleticism and trialled with the NZ Breakers two weeks ago (also coached by Dunlap at Metro State.
Throw in Simon Conn off the bench, 6'10 centre who just completed 4 years of college who was signed by the Dragons but failed his physical.
I'm hoping for a miracle but not gonna mortgage the house on it!

I believe he needed knee surgery, nothing major but was a concern at the time.

Surprised he didn't get picked up regardless, or will someone grab him next year? He's been talked up as a prospect on OzHoops by people who must've seen him in ABA action.

Conn was actually offered a contract by West Sydney before the Dragons came on the scene and would have been signed by the Tigers if they couldn't have had Dench's point rating miraculously dropped from a 10 to a 7.

That's what I thought. Neither of those clubs bothered by the knee then?

"Miraculous" could describe a few clubs fitting their rosters under the cap too...

Sullivan, Sutton and Campbell will have to combine for at LEAST 15 triples for the Eagles to be a show.

PLUS, the likes of Dix, Dougie, Wood, Hoban and Haydon will need to seriously CRASH the boards and/or box out.

Eagles could do it, geez 2 months ago Sturt was unbeatable!

Dandenong outweigh Forestville in the big man department by a long way. Hobba and Cannon are monsters on the boards.

However, in terms of guards Forestville could really balance out the contest if they can fire from outside.

Just looking at the live scores for the Sturt game, the other mob have three girls with the same surname as well (Hennessy).

They then see Sturt's triple-name and raise that with another double-name (Samuels), plus add a few funny names for good measure (Butt, Strong).
