Left field idea

With all the scribes saying football is becoming like basketball, how about basketball becoming like football.

Just wondering what would be the opposition coaches reaction to playing a permanent forward. By permanent forward i mean someone who stays soley on the offensive end of the court.

What would the opposition coach do? Surely you would have to match them up. Creating a 4 on 4 situation at one end and a 1 on 1 situation at the other.

This is probably a stupid idea and probably would not work in the long run, but it maybe an option if one team has the wood on the other for a particular reason.

Would certainly throw out alot of the more slow it down, half court orientated offences you see especially in european basketball...at least for a short while.

They can do that if they really want to... But that rule should not be enforced, terrible rule!

our school 'coach' in year 9 tried to do this with us. Problem you'll find is they'll play a 5-out spread offense, stretching your 4 defenders who'll have to work really hard to cover all 5 players. Once a shot is put up, their guard will hustle back to safety, and you'll not be able to get a consistant lob into you're key position forward.

Good in theory, but then again, so was communism!

What about like, having a big man camp at the offensive end against a poor shooting team... the 4 defenders play like a box defense... as soon as they get the board the outlet throws it high... the guard getting back will be boxed out or sealed away from the ball... could b interesting!

Sturt did this against us in U20s when they only had 5 players and 1 of them got injured. We scored too easily.

If it aint broke, don't fix it. AFL is still the number one sport in Australia, no point tinkering with it that dramatically.

Footy ain't becomin like basketball if it was they wouldn't be getting uncontested possessions behind the play as we all know if we do that in basketball it's called as a Back Court Violation. I nowadays would compare that sort of play to soccer as the ball is continously going backwards and never getting anywhere doesn't stop Footy from being the second best sport in the world (Begind Basketball) Soccer in my opinion is lower down in the ranks
