06/07 Performance Review

Smythe,No impact on game night,Hasn't changed with the league,Stale..OUT.
Breheny,Doesn't want to step up to head coach, just marking time, a new boss may rejuvenate him..??.
Brooks,The loss of team spirit and the arrival of indecision coincided with his arrival..OUT.
Maher, the heart and soul of the team, struggled at times due to lack of support from team mates..KEEP.
Majstrovich, some skills but no heart & no D..OUT.
Hill,good effort level,No discipline,experience will help..KEEP.
Sutton, Sign on long term contract.
Nash, Inconsistent, but is flexible, good D & selflessness just save him..KEEP.
Ng,studies have disrupted his focus, good value off the bench..KEEP.
Farley Briliant 1 on 1,But no D, no second effort ,Too much sooking if someone beats him, not a team player,,OUT.
Cooper a little soft, should look to shoot more, great shot blocker, honest..KEEP.
Wheeler,a sad story because age has wearied him,,OUT.
Burdon, development,,KEEP.
Copeland, has heart & soul & 500 games to his credit ,have a good retirement Lanard & thanks for coming.
Dodman,ABL player not NBL but deserves another season as development,,KEEP.
Timmons, now he has some match fitness is OK, is TOUGH and the team needs an enforcer, should rebound more,,KEEP.
Horvath, good 1 on 1 but tough defence and double teams find him wanting, for his size & weight dosen't rebound well enough, the team can get more value for their import dollar,,OUT.

Yeah lets get rid of our season MVP we'll be good then (sarcasm).
and i'd have Mastro over Nash even despite Nash's good defense and Mastro's poor shot-selection.

Nash's D last night was horrible (mind you, so was almost everybody's). He was having difficulties finding his man, and several times was left wandering around the key trying to figure out what was going on ... looked confused and far from the defensive specialist he used to be.

there where so many air balls last night we reduced the co2 level by a couple points

Cooper,Horvath(maybe),Ng,Maher and Sutton KEEP!

The rest can go do what they like.

Timmons & Copes may comeback for minimum to fill up the roster.

Wheeler hasn't been that bad and gets some good rebounds and 3 nice dunks last night but we really need someone who will contribute that bit more.

KEEP: Maher, Sutton

RETIRE: Copeland (good season though), Timmons, Wheeler

GET RID OF: Nash, Cooper, Farley

MAYBE KEEP ON BENCH: Ng, Hill, Majstro

WHO KNOWS?: Horvath - good first half of season, shocking second half

COACHING: Can you really blame the coaching team for missing 1 finals series out of the last ten, including 3 championships? Bit harsh I think. Different tactics definitely needed though. Might come with better and earlier recruiting in off season

Think you got most things right sixer gilr, but there is no way we can continue with Smyth, if we do, we may well have no one here at all to play.
And for crying out loud, there are still some people who support Nash, stating that he plays good D. Well I must be watching another game, the guy is simply a liability. What about his shooting last night as well?! I really liked the air ball from about 3 feet away too, but then again it was a little out of his range.
Does anyome know if that court commentator asked to fans to "bring them home" again last night when we were about 40 points down?
And why would our great coach not bring a development player on in the last quarter when all was lost, but rather send Copeland back on. That is simply inexcusable.

Squid - if a development player takes to the court, they must be paid for every game they have suited on, regardless on whether they have played or not - hence why they dont get a run.

Well get Phil to damn well pay them out of his OVER exhorbitant salary!!! In real business it used to be 3 warnings and you are gone, omFg, hes had 3 outs in 3 innings! Let the dev guys get a damn run. (and say ta ta Phil!)

Didnt Sutton and Ng finish off the last 5 -10mins last night, thats giving the young guys a run. The only one that sat still was Burdon. Maybe Copes gets the time because Phil wants his knowledge to be passed onto Sutton and Ng, but you wouldnt think of that would you.

Yes, great knowledge that would be also, to jack up a shot at every opportunity and play token defense :P

For Mine
Cuts :

Smyth ( all good things come to and end)
Willie (we all know why), Ng ( just not big enough to play D in the league)
Nashy, hurts me to say but the front office will see out your contract.

Unles something better comes along catergory:
Timmons ( got an off season to get into shape and get used to the domes rings)
Copeland ( no reason to cut him bar his age and unless we sign Kirsten)
Horvath ( liked him early then realised he was one dimensional and does not display the mental toughness you would expect from a Duke player)
Mastro ( can see why he has bounced around the league)
Keepers:
Coop ( Horavth no D has given copp plenty of weak side blocks this year)
Maher ( do i need to justify)
Sutton( Maher like potential)
Dodman ( some one give the kid some minutes)

Go After
Shensh
Kersten
Either Darnell or Newley but would prefer Darnell as there is no risk this time of him disappearing to Euro or the NBA
3/4 Import fresh face

So possible line up would be

1: Darnell, Sutton, Kersten
2: Maher, Hill
3: Import, Timmons or Mastro
4: Horvath / Coop / Import
5: Shensh / Coop

Darnell and Stiff (so i can wear my number #11 Jersey again).

You can't drop Majstrovich he hasnt been given a consistant go this year by coach Smyth.

Ng, studies have disrupted his focus
What makes you say that? He's a disciplined player - I think that he's undersized and sometimes doesn't make shots that he could.

Yogee:
Squid - if a development player takes to the court, they must be paid for every game they have suited on, regardless on whether they have played or not - hence why they dont get a run.
You sure? Pretty sure they only get paid for games they play in, on top of the development player salary (if anything).

Nash will get given an office job - gives them some return for their money, doesn't leave him without an income, and doesn't burn a spot on the roster.

Get Schenscher home - he can't sit over there forever waiting for a gig. Get him before the Dragons or someone else pick him up.

Something Nash does well which he gets no credit for is the way he sets screens for Maher. If you watch those two when they are on court together, Nash is always looking out for Maher..they seems to have good on-court non-verbal communication.
I agree his shots were poor, but there's alot he does that doesn't show up on stats. Even if he doesn't get a rebound, he often taps it to keep the ball in play.

Smyth & Breheny - Dependent on contract.

Maher - Hopefully will stay
Hill - Stay
Ng - Stay
Sutton - Stay
Horvath - Hopefully will stay
Coops - Stay
Mastro - Stay
Coops - Stay
Horvath - Hopefully will stay

Nash - Retirement
Wheels - Retirement
Lanard - Retirement
Timmons - Retirement
Farley - Gone

I have a feeling this is what will happen for next season. If that is the case (no-one knows until everything is finalised) I think the team will need the following:

An import that can run the point & score when needed.

A good Aussie big man eg. Knight, Moore, Pepper, Melmeth.

We also need a backup 3/4 someone who can guard Cat, Sam Mc, Powell etc. if Nash goes.

But it is all guess work.

Following on from what Yogee stated about the development players, Burdon has actually gotten court time in 4 games this year (Dodman 2), so what difference would it make if he got in on Saturday?

Also, Brisbane has used 5 development players (Broom, Neisler, Goulding, Gurney, and Kelleher), and I can't imagine that even the Bullets would cough up $20,000 or whatever just to play one of these guys for 2 minutes.

Saves leaving Maher out there until four minutes left in a blow-out.

Quite right Isaac. His minutes have been too heavy for the past 3-4 years and saving him from having to play at the end of a game like Saturday's would reduce his workload.
